Straumsnes is located by the Straumen river section between Valnesfjordvatnet and Valnesfjorden. When looking for a hotel, it is helpful to distinguish between the village itself and nearby destinations: Hjerteløypa starts in the centre of Strømsnes; the waterfall, national park and Kvalhornet are in the surrounding area.

Straumsnes and its road connections

The Rv. 80 runs through Straumsnes between the E6 at Fauske and Bodø. The Fv. 530 branches off the Rv. 80 to the northeast towards Valnesfjord Helsesportsenter. This places the village on the route between Fauske and Bodø; the Fv. 530 is another point of reference for local road connections.

Hjerteløypa and trails in the surrounding area

The 2.7 km Hjerteløypa circular trail starts in the centre of Strømsnes. One section follows an existing road, while another crosses open terrain. The route is intended for walking, skiing and cycling. In winter, it is used as a ski trail. If you are planning a winter visit, check its current grooming status in advance. This lets you take the circular route and its intended uses into account when planning, without assuming a particular walking or cycling time.

The trail to Bringslifossen waterfall, also known as Storforsen, starts at Heimegård and follows the Leiråga river for about 1 km. To get there, take the Rv. 80 towards Fauske, turn off at Nordvika towards Bringsli, and then continue to Heimegård. As signage may change, check it before setting off. Unlike Hjerteløypa, this destination is described as starting at Heimegård, with a trail along the river.

The nearby Sjunkhatten National Park offers nature experiences on land and water throughout the year. Kvalhornet is on the west side of Valnesfjordvatnet and within the national park. In winter, conditions there are ideal for skiing and snowboarding. The options therefore vary by season: nature experiences in the park are available all year, while the skiing and snowboarding conditions at Kvalhornet relate to winter.
