Liland in Evenes combines marked hiking trails in the Lilandsfjellene mountains with historic sites. This makes the cultural landscape and agricultural history central to planning your trip. Hovdegården and the old Brygga complex add local history as distinct themes alongside the hiking opportunities.

Hiking Trails and Views

The Liland IF sports club has created marked hiking trails in the Lilandsfjellene mountains. Trailheads are at Stordalen/Høgda, Stuslåtta and Liland brygge. The network also includes rest areas with access to water, as well as places to make coffee and barbecue. This means you can take both trailheads and places to rest into account when planning your outing.

Lilandsveten is a mountain hike through the cultural landscape of Liland in Evenes, reaching an elevation of 351 metres above sea level. From there, you can see Liland, the archipelago, Bogen and the Ofotfjord. The elevation and the view provide two different points of reference for this hike: the elevation describes the climb, while the named places and landscapes characterise the view from Lilandsveten. For the recommended return route from Veten, the trail follows a marked cultural path and old routes back to Stuslåtta. Here, the focus is on the return route and its destination, not the elevation of Lilandsveten.

Hovdegården and the Old Brygga

Hovdegården in Liland is an open-air museum with a stable, storehouse, fire house, smithy, farmhand's house and cart shed. There is also an outdoor bread oven. The farmstead was developed into a large farm from the mid-19th century; traditional farming continued there until the 1970s or 1980s. The buildings and this long period make agricultural history a tangible part of a visit.

The old Brygga complex is also one of Liland's historic sites. It has been restored and is used, among other things, for tourism. The Brygga hosted the annual open world championship in dried cod head throwing. Thus, the restored complex and a tradition of events coexist at the same site, but this does not mean that an event is currently scheduled.

More cultural themes in the wider destination of Evenes

The wider destination of Evenes has a dedicated focus on Sámi culture at Gállogieddi. Its traditional buildings include a gamme, a traditional arched-pole lávvu, residential and farm buildings, and storehouses. The site also includes an exhibition of Sámi handicrafts, or duodji. The marked Gállogieddi cultural trail is 2 kilometres long, follows an old route into the mountains and features Sámi cultural heritage sites.

Márkomeannu is also part of the cultural offering in the wider Evenes area. The Sámi festival takes place annually on the last weekend of July at Gállogieddi and presents Sámi musicians, visual artists and cultural practitioners from across Sápmi.
