Kjeldebotn offers a range of options to consider when planning a trip: a wooden church, events, seasonal ski trails, and opportunities for fishing and canoeing. The surrounding landscape can also be part of your plans.

Culture and Events

Kjeldebotn Church is a wooden long church dating from 1956. A recurring tradition is the Kjeldebotndagan market, which has been held over the St. Hans weekend since the 1990s. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the dates for the relevant edition.

The Dirt&Køntri Festival is held in connection with the annual country festival in Kjeldebotn. Its grounds are at Kjeldebotngård in the center of the village. Dates and arrangements may vary from one edition to the next, so check the relevant dates before your trip.

Ski Trails, Sauna and Canoes

The Kjeldebotn Idrettslag prepares ski trails each season. These include a three-kilometer floodlit trail and a five-kilometer trail. Trail grooming depends on snow conditions and seasonal operations. The lengths of the two trails give you a concrete point of reference for planning, without specifying a particular walking or skiing time.

Folkebadstua opened in 2023 and can accommodate ten people. It is rented out by the local boating club. As the sauna's capacity may change, you should confirm it, along with current rental options, in advance. The Rask 4H youth club also rents out two canoes for use in Kjeldebotn. Check whether the canoes are available before your trip.

Mountains, Lakes and Waterfall

There are two medium-sized lakes on Håfjellet above Kjeldebotn. Fuglevannet is notable for its small channels and numerous islands. There are hiking opportunities in the mountains around Kjeldebotn; the trails are often considered good, gently sloping and pleasant to walk. As with other trails, conditions and markings may change. There are also opportunities for mountain biking on trails in the mountains and forests around Kjeldebotn; their condition and maintenance may change as well.

Kvitforsen is located seven kilometers south of Kjeldebotn. Its total drop is 100 meters, including a 40-meter vertical drop. A limestone cave lies beneath the waterfall, where guided caving tours are held. Check in advance for tour dates.

Fishing and Hunting

The Kjeldelva is a small river suitable for sport fishing for salmon. It flows into the Ofotfjord at Kjelde in Kjeldebotn. Fishing begins at Rusberget, about 900 meters from the sea; the anadromous stretch reaches the mouth of Bakkevatnet. Boundaries and fishing regulations may change seasonally, so check them in advance.

Small and big game hunting also have a long tradition in Kjeldebotn. Hunting permits for small and big game can be purchased on large parts of Statskog's land above the tree line. Hunting seasons, permit availability and regulations may change; check the current conditions before making plans.

Getting There and Trip Planning

Since 1993, a scheduled boat service has operated across the Ofotfjord between Kjeldebotn and Evenes. Check the current route and timetable before traveling. If an event or a particular activity is the reason for your trip, plan your search around the confirmed date and your planned travel days.
