Rindal: Local History, Igltjønna and Ski Trails
Accommodation in Rindal
Rindal offers several points to consider when planning a trip: historic buildings and churches tell the story of the area, while Igltjønna is both a swimming area and a starting point for trails. There are also ski trails and cultural events. If you are looking for a hotel in Rindal, you can consider which of these activities you would like to focus on during your stay.
Culture and history in Rindal
Dalalåven Atelier is a gallery and shop in a restored old barn. You will find it at Rindalsvegen 13C in the centre of Rindal. Rindal Ski Museum offers a different perspective on the area's history: its museum grounds include 15 historic buildings that visitors can explore. These include a Trønderlåna, a smithy, a threshing barn, a smallholding and a mill. The museum also has a historic ski exhibition.
Rindal Church is a long church in the centre of Rindal and was consecrated in 1874. The older church history includes different dates: Rindal Church is mentioned in records from 1548–1549, and a stave church in Rindal is described in 1589. It is uncertain which church building was erected first. This distinction helps put the dates in context without confusing them with the year the present long church was built.
The church is also a venue for cultural events: concerts and other cultural events are organised there in collaboration with Rindal municipality and Arena:kirke. If you would like to plan your trip around a concert or event, check the dates in advance.
Igltjønna: swimming area and hiking trails
At Igltjønna in the centre of Rindal, there is a swimming area with parking, toilets and a kiosk. The grounds also include a volleyball court, a sauna, a diving board, a diving tower and a playground. Individual facilities may change over time, so check local information if a particular amenity is important to your plans.
Igltjønna is also the starting point for a network of marked hiking trails that can be used year-round. This means you can make time at the swimming area and hiking the separate focuses of your visit. There are also opportunities for ice bathing at Igltjønna. The sauna key can be borrowed free of charge. As access arrangements may change, check the current borrowing options before your trip.
Ski trails and seasonal activities
Igltjønna Ski Stadium in the centre of Rindal is the main ski facility of Rindal IL. Groomed ski trails lead from the stadium to Grønlifeltet and Furuhaugmarka, as well as down to Skogsletta. There is a floodlit trail there; Skogsletta is 11 km away. Trail grooming is seasonal. By contrast, the marked hiking trail network at Igltjønna can be used year-round—a helpful distinction when weighing up your travel dates and activities.
Småtrolluka is another local activity. The activity week is for girls and boys, with an emphasis on recreational sports, community, play and discovering what you can do. It has been held since 1985. The description gives an idea of what the week focuses on; individual programme activities vary from year to year.
Transport service and trip planning
AtB offers a bookable transport service between Rindal centre and Lomundsjøen or Rindalsskogen. If you plan to use it for your trip, check the latest details and booking conditions in advance. Together with Rindal's varied attractions, this raises a practical planning question: would you like to spend most of your time exploring local history, the opportunities around Igltjønna, the ski trails or an event?
