Aureosen: Hiking Trail, Auresaga and Nature
Accommodation in Aureosen
Aureosen offers several different points of interest to help you plan your trip: the short Aureosen Tursti, the Auresaga cultural heritage site, and nature topics such as birdlife and wetlands. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Aureosen, these interests can help you find your bearings in the area according to your own travel plans.
Hiking the Aureosen Tursti
The Aureosen Tursti connects the Aureosen residential area with the old Aureosen school and continues to Jendemsfjellet. The short route runs partly along well-maintained trail sections and partly along forest roads. From a car park, follow the road or trail uphill for about 500 metres, turn left at the signposted junction and continue along the forest road to Forhaugen. There is a bench there and a place to rest. Distance and surface describe different aspects: the approximately 500 metres refers to the uphill section leading to the junction; the trail and forest-road sections describe the route as a whole. For navigation, the starting point, signposted junction and Forhaugen are distinct reference points.
View from Jendemsfjellet
From the summit of Jendemsfjellet, you can see the Ona Fyr lighthouse. This view adds a specific landscape reference to the route information. For those interested in hiking, a named destination in the view is part of the area’s character, alongside the route and trail types.
Getting there and the starting point
A route description updated on 5 March 2024 lists parking for the Tursti at the old Aureosen school, where buses also stop. It gives the FRAM bus route from Molde to Elnesvågen via Jendem and names the old school as the stop. The Aureosen Tursti also starts at this location. Check the route timetable before travelling by bus. The old school is a shared reference point for finding your way on arrival: the car park, bus stop and start of the hiking trail are all located there.
Auresaga as a cultural highlight
Aureosen is home to Auresaga, a regionally significant cultural heritage site with a sawmill and workshop. It offers a different focus from the Tursti: here, the emphasis is on a cultural heritage site with two named features, while the Tursti is a hiking route with trail and forest-road sections. If you would like to consider cultural topics as well as hiking when choosing a destination, Auresaga is a point of interest in its own right. Its designation as regionally significant complements the specific information about the sawmill and workshop.
Birdlife and wetlands
Nature topics in Aureosen include birdlife and wetlands. Birdlife is common to both nature references; wetlands are mentioned only in one of them. If you are interested in birdlife or wetlands, you can incorporate these topics into your travel plans in this way.
