In and around Kabelvåg, art, Lofoten fishing history, and activities on land or water come together as travel interests. When choosing a hotel, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: are exhibitions and culture your priority, or would you also like to make time for cycling, kayaking, and a viewpoint? Kabelvåg therefore combines cultural attractions with opportunities for active days.

Church, Art, and Fishing History

Vågan Church, also known as the Lofoten Cathedral, was consecrated in October 1898. It is located near Kjerkvågen, about one kilometre east of Kabelvåg. In the wider destination of Vågan, the Lofoten Cathedral in Kabelvåg has 1,200 seats and is the largest church in Northern Norway. If you are planning a visit, check current access arrangements in advance, as visitor regulations may vary.

Galleri Espolin manages and presents a unique art collection by Kaare Espolin Johnson (1907–1994). At SKREI, the migrating cod takes centre stage: the exhibition tells how it has shaped the Lofoten fishery, coastal life, and Norway for a thousand years. The main exhibition at the Otolith brings the history of the Lofoten fishery to life through sound, projections, and atmospheric staging. A collection centred on an artist and an audiovisual account of the fishery thus offer distinct cultural experiences.

The Lille Kabelvåg art gallery and museum has 600 square metres of exhibition space.

Activities on Land and Water

The area also offers hands-on activities. At Lofoten Glass, you can shape molten glass into a bead or pendant in a jewellery workshop. From Kabelvåg, you can go kayaking or join a fishing trip followed by dinner. Check the current availability of the workshop, kayaking, and fishing trip before your journey.
