Nå: Cider Farms, Local History and Trails
Accommodation in Nå
When searching for a hotel in Nå, you can plan your stay around the things you want to explore locally: cider and apple juice, farm history, trails or the landscape along the fjord. There are specific places and activities to suit these interests. Tastings and individual offerings have different seasonal and booking details; check these with the farm or provider you choose.
Cider, Farm History and Food
The building that houses Siderhuset Ola K dates back to 1912. It opened as a rural general store and local meeting place for trade, postal services and community life. Its original role thus connects the area’s economic and community history. Agriculture is also part of the area’s history: Eirik Nå Aga’s ancestors farmed at Store Naa Siderkompani from 1724.
Store Naa Siderkompani is an apple juice and cider producer on a family-run farm in Nå. Its products use apples and other ingredients grown on the farm, including black and red currants. From May to September, the farm offers two cider tastings daily. The approximately one-hour tasting includes a walk through the orchard, stories and light snacks. As this is a seasonal offering, confirm the dates in advance.
At Siderhuset Ola K, you can plan a two-course lunch or a three-course dinner featuring locally available ingredients. The menus depend on the ingredients available and may therefore vary. Cider and/or wine tastings with a sommelier and a pommelier are available on request; confirm booking and availability directly.
In the Siderbygda Vikebygd (Nå), visitors can take part in one or two cider tastings. Bookings are made through the individual farms. Visitors can also walk between the farms and visit their farm shops. If you want to combine these offerings, check current access arrangements and booking details directly with the relevant business. Edel sider from Åkre Gard is one of the producers in Vikebygd that offers tastings.
Store Naa Siderkompani’s farm shop sells fruit products year-round, while cider tastings are limited to the months of May to September. Confirm the farm shop’s schedule before your trip. This lets you plan a seasonal tasting and shopping as separate options, rather than assuming that both are available at the same times.
Trails, Views and Landscape
From Nå, you can drive to Reisete and continue on foot from there via stone steps. At the top of the ascent, the Hardangervidda is visible when the weather is suitable. The view is therefore a weather-dependent part of this excursion. A walk along Nå’s trails also passes Western Norwegian farms and rows of apple trees, offering a different perspective on the agricultural landscape.
The Stone Park in Nå displays various types of rock. Along with the trails and farms, it offers a range of ways to spend time outdoors: you can plan a walk, choose the climb at Reisete or visit the park. Treat these as separate destinations; the information does not combine them into a set route.
Nå has an artificial beach, Nå-stranda. A local host recommends swimming in the fjord there. Check the conditions and facilities locally if you plan to swim. This keeps the description of the beach separate from the specific question of whether conditions are suitable during your visit.
Getting There and Finding Your Way
Nå is 22 kilometres from Odda and can be reached via Fylkesvei 550. There is also a former ferry landing in the village. For getting there today, the stated road connection is the specific point of reference; the former landing is not described as a current ferry service.
