Tysse is the administrative centre of Samnanger and has shops as well as a service centre. Two things stand out when choosing this destination: its distinctive local history and a specific activity. A/S Samnanger Uldvarfabrik shaped the development of the village, while the circular tour to Tyssereinane starts at the quay in Ytre Tysse. This lets you incorporate Tysse into your travel plans through both its industrial past and a tour.

Industrial history that shaped Tysse

A/S Samnanger Uldvarfabrik was founded in Tysse in 1886. Within a few years, its growth transformed the character of the village: a rural area became a lively centre with homes, shops, workshops, cafés and accommodation. The factory’s history therefore extends beyond its operations to include the development of the village centre.

The factory initially employed 25 people; at its peak, it employed around 400. This comparison gives a tangible sense of the scale of historical growth. An earlier history of trade and hospitality also provides context: from 1862, Svein L. Røsseland ran a general store and an inn in Ytre Tysse. This predates the factory’s founding and shows another facet of the village’s history.

Circular tour to Tyssereinane from Ytre Tysse

The circular tour to Tyssereinane starts at the quay in Ytre Tysse and follows both a paved road used by cars and a traffic-free gravel path. The tour may be suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, depending on route conditions. When assessing its suitability, also take into account the slopes and the lack of pavements along a road used by traffic.

There is parking for several cars at the quay. The spaces are not marked or signposted as disabled parking. Parking conditions can change, so check them before you travel. This helps you adapt your journey to your needs without making blanket assumptions about the tour’s suitability.
