Accommodation in Hagavik
When planning a stay in Hagavik, hikes on Liafjellet and Vardafjellet differ primarily in their route profiles and conditions: on Liafjellet, the distance and total elevation gain matter; on Vardafjellet, the starting point, trail section and possible wet patches after heavy rain are practical considerations. Fantasiløypa, Storevarden, the Nore-Neset Church and Hagavik Hjemmebakeri add a circular route, a protected burial mound, a church building and a destination for a bike ride to get pastries.
Hiking in Hagavik
Liafjellet and Nore Neset
The hike up Liafjellet starts in Nore Neset, Hagavik. It is 1.5 kilometres long, with a total elevation gain of 227 metres. The hike is classified as suitable year-round, although weather and trail conditions can vary. Both the route distance and total elevation gain are therefore relevant when planning your hike.
From Os bus station, you can reach the hike on routes 603 or 607; get off at the Nore Neset barneskule stop. Check the timetable and stop before travelling, as bus routes and stops may change.
Storevarden stands on a protected burial mound dating from the Early Iron Age. The site is dated to the period from 500 BCE to 550 CE and measures 15 metres in diameter. Do not disturb the protected burial mound.
Fantasiløypa is a circular trail with six stations featuring fantasy figures, benches and mailboxes. The installations may change over time, so check the current situation before your visit.
Vardafjellet: trailhead and trail conditions
The trail up Vardafjellet starts in Hagavik about 100 metres past the turn-off to Kysthospitalet. Bus routes 607 and 602 go to this turn-off. Check the connection before travelling.
For the first 500 to 600 metres, the route follows a wide, well-maintained tractor road to Hopvlandsvatnet. After heavy rainfall, there may be several wet sections on the trail from the dam to the summit. This note refers to this section and the conditions after heavy rain.
There is no designated car park for hikers at the trailhead, but one or two cars can be parked there. Check the parking options before you arrive, as local conditions may change.
