Discover Straume: Straumemila, Trails and Hotels
Accommodation in Straume
If you’re looking for a hotel in Straume, the activities you’re interested in during your trip can play a role in choosing your destination. In Straume, Straumemila, the Kyrkjevegen circular trail, the Larslibua day-use cabin, and bathing and recreation areas offer different options to consider when planning. They range from a running and walking event to a circular trail open year-round and individual destinations with accessible facilities.
Straumemila: Runs and Walks
Straumemila includes a total of seven different runs or walks. These include a 2.3-kilometre run for younger participants, as well as 5- and 10-kilometre runs. The start and finish are at Sotra Arena. It is also possible to take part with a stroller or wheelchair. Event details may vary from one edition to another, so check the information for the relevant Straumemila before making plans.
The 5-kilometre route follows paths by Skogavatnet and Ebbesvikvatnet, passes Sartorlunden park and goes through the centre of Straume. This means you can choose a route based not only on distance, but also on the sections mentioned.
Trails and Day-Use Cabin
The Kyrkjevegen circular trail between Foldnes and Hjelteryggen is 5.2 kilometres long and open year-round. The trail is accessible to wheelchair users as far as Larslivatnet. As terrain conditions can change, check the current trail conditions before setting out.
The Larslibua day-use cabin is located by Larslivatnet on Kyrkjevegen in Foldnes, Straume. Access is via a gently uphill gravel path suitable for wheelchair users and strollers; bear in mind that there are also steeper sections. A wheelchair ramp leads into the cabin. The parking area for Larslibua is at Foldnes Church. The municipality’s description lists the cabin as open daily to all hikers. It cannot be reserved; check the current access information before your visit.
The 5-kilometre Straumemila route and the 5.2-kilometre Kyrkjevegen circular trail are similar in length, but differ in character: one is part of an event, while the other is a circular trail open year-round.
Bathing and Recreation Spots in Straume
Geitevikja is a popular bathing and outdoor recreation area with a universally accessible bathing ramp into the sea. There are several benches in Sartorlunden park, and a climbing area and exercise area in the southern section. The shore of Skogavatnet is used for events, breaks and recreation. These spots offer different ways to spend time outdoors without having to plan a longer hike.
Parking at Straume Terminal
Straume Terminal has free, covered bicycle parking for up to 36 bicycles. There are also approximately 140 parking spaces; capacity may change. When planning, check the latest information on parking capacity, as well as the opening hours and capacity of the bicycle parking facilities.
