Discover Stange: Sport, Spirejakt and Architectural Heritage
Accommodation in Stange
When planning a trip to Stange, there are several themes to choose from: sport and events at Stangehallen, Spirejakt in the centre, or routes and cultural attractions around the municipality. If you are looking for a hotel in Stange, these interests can help you decide which themes to focus on during your stay.
Sport, events and art in the centre
Stangehallen combines sports facilities with event spaces. Its indoor athletics track is 200 metres long and has banked curves; the hall also includes a swimming pool. It is suitable for major sporting events, trade fairs, concerts, conferences, large catered events and other large-scale events. There are dedicated rooms for dance, theatre performances and lectures. The events taking place depend on the programme at the time. So check the event listings if a particular type of event is important to your trip.
Spirejakt offers a different way to explore the area. In central Stange, there are ten installations for visitors to find on buildings, tree trunks or other features. The activity aims to share knowledge about the local area, cultural heritage and art. The search thus connects visitors with the area through public art, complementing the sporting and event-related options with a cultural activity.
Church and architectural heritage in Stangebyen
Stange Church is close to Stange, outside the town centre. It is a stone church dating from around 1250. In the wider Stange destination, it is noted for its rich furnishings from the 17th and 18th centuries, including a large pulpit from the 1630s. Its architectural history and furnishings provide a distinct cultural focus for a stay in Stange and the municipality.
Several buildings and areas in Stangebyen also form part of the historic townscape. The proposed plan provides for the preservation of Solbrå on Storgata, Sole, Elstad and the workers’ residential area on Hans Sørholtes veg. They are considered buildings or areas of historic value that help define local identity. Preservation is a planning designation.
Walking routes and seasonal activities
Stange itself has many kilometres of marked walking routes. In winter, snowmobile-groomed ski trails run across the fields; grooming may vary from one winter to the next. This means different seasonal activities can be a focus when planning your trip. If you are travelling to use a winter ski trail, check the conditions before setting off.
The wider Stange destination has more than 500 kilometres of marked routes. These include routes that extend beyond the municipality: the Rondanestien passes through Stange municipality on its route between Oslo and Hjerkinn. The national Pilgrim’s Route, Pilegrimsleden, runs from Oslo to Nidaros, enters Stange municipality at Lysjøen and continues to Stange Church. This makes it possible to choose between marked routes in Stange and longer routes through the municipality.
The wider Stange destination is also home to the more than 25-kilometre network of routes at Ilsengstiene, which passes through wetlands rich in birdlife. The protected Våletjern is also in the wider Stange destination: the nature reserve protects a naturally nutrient-rich pond with diverse plant and bird life, as well as a wetland complex. Please observe the local conservation rules there.
More destinations in the municipality
The wider Stange destination is home to Tangen Dyrepark, with more than 200 animals from around 30 Nordic and exotic species. At the park, children can take part in feeding the animals, get close to them and learn about them in a natural setting. This is a distinct outing option alongside the walking routes and cultural attractions in the town.
Atlungstad Brenneri is in Stange municipality, on the eastern shore of Lake Mjøsa, at the mouth of Fjetrebekken. Several farms in Stange founded the distillery in 1855 to process the area’s growing potato surplus. It is still in operation and is used for spirits production and educational activities; large-scale production has ended. Stange municipality also offers swimming spots in Lake Mjøsa and in smaller lakes and ponds. These options are seasonal.
Getting here and finding your way around
