Discover Åmot
Accommodation in Åmot
Åmot offers a range of themes to consider when planning your trip: historic buildings, views from Ebbesåsen, outdoor activities and seasonal ski facilities. Whether you are mainly interested in local history, a walk outdoors or winter activities, the local sights and offerings each have their own appeal.
Buildings and local history
The Korketrekkeren hairpin bend dates back to 1923. Here, the road curves alongside a one-sided, roughly 15-metre-high wall of masonry-built natural stone blocks that extends down to the river. The road’s course, the masonry and the riverside location make the structure a distinctive part of local history.
Åmot station on the Randsfjord Line also tells of an earlier era of railway traffic: it opened in 1866 and is now closed. Georg Andreas Bull designed the station buildings. The year it opened, its architect and its current status give the building its own historical context.
Åmot is also home to the Kongsfoss Art Centre, which has a glassworks. The centre officially opened on 1 September 2001. Together with the Korketrekkeren hairpin bend and the station, it adds a cultural and craft dimension to the local history.
Outdoor activities and views from Ebbesåsen
The Modum Street Workout Park is in the centre of Åmot. It is open for general use and has a range of exercise equipment and lighting. This makes outdoor exercise a specific part of what the area offers.
The circular trail around Ebbesåsen leads to a viewpoint. From there, you can see the river, the buildings on the eastern side of Åmot and the Korketrekkeren. This brings the landscape, the townscape and the historic structure into view together. There is also a shelter with a fire pit and benches on the south side of Ebbesåsen, making it a good spot for a short break.
