Discover Homborsund
Accommodation in Homborsund
Homborsund combines coastal paths with forest and marshland, as well as the history of Eide Church and the nearby Homborsund lighthouse station. The Kalvehageneset outdoor recreation area has paved paths and a subtly marked coastal trail; at Eide School, a marked path leads through the forest to an open marsh. If you’re looking for hotels in Homborsund, you can choose outings based on scenery, route and cultural history.
Coastal paths in Kalvehageneset
The Kalvehageneset outdoor recreation area has a car park and paved paths suitable for strollers and people with reduced mobility. The purple-marked section of the path is suitable for people with reduced mobility and for strollers. The loop offers views over Homborsund Fjord and the open sea. Before Dybesund, the path passes two sandy beaches in Meggersvik. At the far end of the path, there are benches and tables with views of the sea; there is also a shelter there.
These destinations bring together several distinct landscape features: the fjord, the open sea and the sandy beaches. The benches, tables and shelter are at the far end of the path. When planning, you can distinguish between a loop with coastal views and a visit to the beaches without attributing the facilities to a different section.
Forest and marsh, or the path to Hoveneset
The marked path at Eide School leads through the forest to a large, open marsh. The entire loop is just under 2 kilometres long. The path is considered easy to walk and is well suited to strollers and wheelchairs. Outside school hours, you can park at Eide School. The path conditions, loop length and parking hours provide practical guidance for this outing.
The path to Hoveneset begins at the public car park by Kalvehageneset. It runs east along the Homborside via Søndre Hoveneset to the public recreation area at Hoveneset and offers views of the Skagerrak. By comparison, the Eide route is described as a loop with a stated total length, while the route to Hoveneset is outlined by its course and destination. This helps you choose between the two outings based on the route you prefer.
Church history and lighthouse station
Eide Church is in Homborsund. It was built of wood from 1795 and was not considered complete until 1806. Construction began and ended in different years; for a cultural-history focus, this building history offers a distinct point of interest alongside the paths and landscapes.
Near Homborsund, on the island of Store Grønningen at the entrance to Homborsund, lies the Homborsund lighthouse station. The coastal light was first lit on 1 September 1879; the tower is 20.1 metres high. A decision by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage dated 3 March 1998 placed the station under heritage protection. Its first lighting and its later protection mark two distinct milestones in its history.
For public use, the Homborsund Lighthouse Friends Association manages the rental of the assistant’s residence, an outbuilding and a boathouse. If this option is relevant to your travel plans, check the current booking conditions in advance.
