Petrovac Na Moru: Beach, Coast and Culture
Accommodation in Petrovac Na Moru
Petrovac Na Moru offers visitors several specific points of interest: a beach with a waterfront promenade, a seasonal landing place at the western end of the waterfront, and the Kastio fortress above the present-day harbor. Cultural sites and a hiking trail also add to the character of the town. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by considering whether beach, coastal scenery, history or a hike is the main focus of your trip.
Beach and coastal scenery
Petrovac Beach consists mainly of reddish sand and is said to be around 600 meters long. A developed waterfront with a promenade also characterizes the coastal area.
Lučice is 500 meters south of Petrovac, a sandy beach in a bay bordered by cypress and pine forest. Compared with Petrovac Beach, the bay and its wooded edges take center stage here. Local access conditions may vary; check them before visiting.
Around 2 kilometers from Petrovac lies the marshy Buljaričko polje, a nature reserve for rare plant and bird species. This adds a wetland as a distinct natural area to the beach landscape. Access conditions may also vary here; check local conditions before visiting.
Two small islands lie off Petrovac: Sveta Nedjelja, with a chapel on the rocks, and Katič. Views of the islands and the Petrovac Riviera are among the highlights. Alongside its beaches, the coastline is also defined by these island views.
Harbor and cultural history
The Pristanište Petrovac landing place is used seasonally for ships to land and moor. It is located at the western end of the waterfront. A usable quay length of 45 meters is specified for landing, and 80 meters for mooring. Technical measurements may change; if you are relying on them for your plans, check the details in advance.
Kastio is the local name for a 16th-century Venetian fortress built above the present-day harbor. It is a specific historical landmark in Petrovac. The churches of Saint Thomas and Saint Elias date from the 14th to 15th centuries and add to the coastal town’s historic sites.
Spomen dom Crvena komuna is a venue for cultural events in Petrovac. It includes the Museum of the Revolution and an art gallery named after the painter Marko K. Gregović. Its program includes drama, visual arts and music, especially in summer. As the program is seasonal, check the dates before visiting.
The Mirišta archaeological site in Petrovac also offers a glimpse into the town’s earlier history: it contains two late-antique Roman mosaics that probably served as floor decorations in a building from the 3rd or 4th century. The Reževići Monastery in the surrounding area includes two churches and the remains of a third.
