Rokiškis can be explored through a range of interests: cultural sites and the city’s history sit alongside practical opportunities for active leisure. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, the following highlights can help you consider the destination in light of your own plans—from the regional museum and sacred buildings to sports and art in the cityscape.

Culture, History, and Cityscape

The Rokiškis Regional Museum has been housed in Rokiškis Manor for nearly half a century and holds more than 90,000 exhibits. Its special collections include Lithuania’s only collection of Nativity figurines. A large collection and a clearly defined specialist subject sit side by side here—an appealing choice if you’d like to explore both general regional history and a distinctive collection focus.

The Church of St. Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist was built in 1877 by Count Reinholdas Tyzenhauzas. Its 56.5-meter-high tower offers views over Rokiškis. Historic architecture and a scenic outlook come together here, though access to the tower may vary. Before your visit, check whether the tower will be open on your planned date. The Easter tradition also makes the church a special cultural landmark: drum ceremonies take place at Easter. A 17th-century drum is played during Mass on Good Friday and on the evening of Holy Saturday. If your stay falls on these days, check the current schedule.

Nepriklausomybės aikštė square in the Old Town is an example of Lithuanian neoclassical urban planning that took shape in the late 18th century. Tapytų langinių gatvė adds a different dimension to the city’s design: more than 300 shutters have been painted there during plein-air events. These two examples offer different perspectives—a neoclassical square and a street defined by its painted shutters.

Rokiškio Kalvarijos is a dispersed sacred monument. It comprises chapels and small Stations of the Cross shrines spread over considerable distances across the city and its hilly landscape. This regional architectural and sacred monument was added to Lithuania’s Cultural Heritage Register in 1993. Unlike a single building or square, this Way of the Cross extends across several locations; access conditions may vary. Check in advance which locations are open to visitors.

Leisure and Special Perspectives

AquaJump Rokiškis water park has two courses: one for beginners and one for professionals. On the beginner course, you can ride either an inflatable tube or a wakeboard. This gives you two separate things to consider: which of the two courses is right for you, and which riding style you’d like to try on the beginner course. As seasonal access may change, check in advance whether the water park will be open during your trip.

The Velykalnis recreation area has outdoor tennis courts and a beach volleyball facility. It offers two different sports to choose from. Operating conditions may change; if you’re planning to use either facility, check its status for your dates before you travel. “Dviračiu aplink Rokiškį” invites you to explore Rokiškis by bicycle, offering a city-focused cycling perspective alongside the individual sports facilities.

Art can also be experienced in Rokiškis in different ways. Lionginas Šepka Park is decorated with more than 100 functional sculptures. Alongside the museum collections and sacred architecture, the park offers another form of artistic expression. As a small culinary treat, handmade “Rokiškio Karvutė” candies are available at the Rokiškis Tourist Information Centre. Check availability before your visit.
