Rathcoole is accessible via junction 4 of the N7 national road. When looking for a hotel, you can consider the area from different perspectives: Rathcoole Park, the indoor children’s play centre Kidspace Rathcoole, a downloadable Village Heritage Walk, and dining options at Avoca. This can help you decide whether parks and outdoor activities, things to do with children, history or food are especially important for your travel plans.

Rathcoole Park: Paths, Sports and Open Space

Rathcoole Park is a central public open space on both sides of Rathcoole and Saggart. Its facilities include sports pitches, a playground, walking and jogging trails, landscaped gardens and lakes. Walking and cycling are also among the activities available in the park. A MUGA provides opportunities for football and basketball. In a notice dated 24 June 2026, South Dublin County Council also described a new, centrally located dog exercise area in Rathcoole Park, with fencing, an improved surface and clearly marked entrances. This brings together several options: paths for walking, jogging or cycling, sports areas and a designated dog exercise area.

Kidspace Rathcoole for Children

Kidspace Rathcoole is an indoor children’s play centre. Babies and toddlers have their own activity area, “Toddler Village”; the main play area is for older children. “Toddler Village” offers art, craft and dance classes. A separate sensory space is called the “Sensory Area”. At the “Pamper Parlour”, children can enjoy hair styling, manicures and playful make-up. Birthday packages are also available: Kidspace offers them in seven themed rooms. The centre can therefore be explored through its different features—age groups, classes, sensory experiences or birthday parties. If children are part of your travel plans, these clearly named areas can help you identify the type of activities on offer.

Local History and Dining

Local history offers another point of interest. The name Rathcoole derives from a rath, or fortification, which tradition says was built in the area by the father of the Irish legendary hero Fionn Mac Cumhail. A guided Village Heritage Walk is available to download for Rathcoole. The traditional explanation of the place name and a specific walking route offer two different ways to explore the area.
