If you are looking for hotels in Lemos, the churches and hikes described here offer practical ideas for planning your stay. Two themes stand out around LaimĂłs: historic churches and trails with different destinations. One route leads to the lakeside forest and the delta of the Agios Germanos River. Agios Ioannis Hill is also a hiking destination. This lets you decide whether churches, birdwatching, river scenery or a hike with a summit view should be the focus of your trip.

Churches in and around LaimĂłs

Just outside Laimós, a three-aisled, timber-roofed basilica dedicated to Agios Ioannis stands on a hill. It offers an excellent view of the lake and the border with North Macedonia. Three-aisled means that the church interior is divided into three aisles. According to tradition, the basilica was built in 1862; in the past, a festival involving the villagers was held outside the church. The former festival adds a social dimension to the building’s architecture and setting.

LaimĂłs is also home to the Church of Agia Paraskevi, which dates from 1896. These offer two distinct settings: Agios Ioannis on a hill outside the village and Agia Paraskevi in the village itself. For travelers who would like to include churches and their history, this difference offers a practical guide when choosing destinations.

Hikes to the lakeside forest, river delta and hill

A 6–7 km trail from Laimós leads to the lakeside forest and the delta of the Agios Germanos River. There are many opportunities for birdwatching along the way. This trail has a different focus from the hike to Agios Ioannis Hill: here, the highlights are the river delta, lakeside forest and wildlife observations along the route.

The Laimós–Lofos Agianni hiking trail starts in Laimós and crosses farmland and a small oak forest before reaching the summit of Agios Ioannis Hill. It offers a panoramic view from the top. A trail description published in 2019 gives the route’s length as 5.2 km, its duration as 1.5–2 hours and its difficulty rating as 1/5. A walk from the edge of the village also leads to the hill, which lies about 1,300 m from the village outskirts. This distance to the destination is a different measurement from the length of the hiking trail described.

The description of the Agios Germanos–Laimós hiking trail, also published in 2019, gives its length as 5.1 km, its duration as 1.5–2 hours and its difficulty rating as 1/5. For the two measured hikes, the stated durations and ratings are the same; the lengths differ by just 0.1 km. The clearest difference lies in their described destinations: Laimós–Lofos Agianni crosses fields and oak forest to reach the summit, while Agios Germanos–Laimós is named for its two endpoints. The route and destination descriptions are therefore the most useful points of comparison.
