Ano Vlasia combines a distinctive hillside setting with mountain trails and cultural events. If you are looking for a hotel in Ano Vlasia, the timing of your trip may be just as important as whether you want to focus mainly on the landscape, architectural history or a festival. The village and its surrounding area offer several starting points for planning your trip: from the hillside settlement to cultural events and scenic destinations.

Hillside setting, mountain trails and surroundings

Ano Vlasia lies amphitheatrically at an elevation of 860 m on a fir-covered slope of Kallifonio. Together, the elevation and hillside setting paint a picture of a mountain village; “amphitheatrically” describes the layout of the settlement on the slope. The mountain trails in Ano Vlasia offer opportunities for hiking. If you would like to include this activity in your stay, check trail conditions in advance. The location and trails play different roles in planning: the former places the village in its landscape, while the latter offer a way to get around during your trip.

The surrounding area also offers further scenic points of interest. The area around Erymanthos is characterized by dense forests of fir, oak and cedar. The Agios Taxiarchis waterfalls are just outside Ano Vlasia. At the end of the gorge, the Selinoundas appears to enter a cave at the nearby waterfalls. The forests and waterfalls represent different scales: a broader forested area around Erymanthos and a specific point of interest in the immediate surroundings.

The Liaskos Mill Bridge

Within the village itself, the Liaskos Mill Bridge provides an architectural highlight. The stone, single-arch bridge was built in 1951 to replace an older wooden bridge. “Single-arch” describes its construction; its material and the year it was built help explain the change from its wooden predecessor. The bridge thus adds a structure with a specific local history to the area’s scenic features. Ano Vlasia can therefore be experienced through both its hillside setting and trails and a structure with a documented historical date.

Cultural events and when to visit

Numerous cultural events are offered to visitors in Ano Vlasia during the summer. In addition, there are two religious festivals with specific dates. The village’s patron saint, Agios Vlasios, is celebrated on February 11. The nearby Agios Nikolaos Vlasia Monastery celebrates the feast of Saint Nicholas the Younger every year on May 9.

There are therefore several factors to consider when choosing when to travel: the mountain trails offer opportunities for hiking, cultural events take place during the summer months, and the two festivals have fixed calendar dates. If you would like to plan your stay around a particular event, check its date in advance. If you plan to visit the monastery, it is also advisable to check access beforehand.
