Kamaria: Mavrovouni Beach in the Surrounding Area
Accommodation in Kamaria
The coastal stretch can be identified both by its neighbouring places and by the names it is known by, some of which are also used for Kamaria. This can help you distinguish the destination from the beach when planning your trip.
Locating Mavrovouni
The open sandy beach of Mavrovouni is about 2 to 2.5 kilometres long. It begins beyond Kamaria and stretches to the picturesque village of Anemomylos. These two reference points frame the coastal stretch; the length is an approximate figure. To locate the beach, therefore, combine its approximate extent with the named places rather than searching by a name alone.
Mavrovouni is less than one kilometre outside Finikounda, between Finikounda and Methoni. From the centre of Finikounda, the beach is about one kilometre to the west and extends towards the road to Methoni. For orientation from Finikounda, the two distance descriptions are not the same: one relates the beach to the town, while the other specifically refers to the centre. Together with its location between Finikounda and Methoni, these give you several geographical reference points to consider.
The beach is also known as Makrynammos or Kamaria. The name Kamaria comes from the nearby, sparsely populated settlement of Kamaria. So when you come across the name Kamaria, it may refer to either the beach or the settlement; the additional names Mavrovouni and Makrynammos, along with the named neighbouring places, can help you identify the coastal stretch. The length and endpoints describe the beach itself; its location relative to Finikounda and Methoni helps place it in the surrounding area.
Beach characteristics and practical planning
Very fine, golden sand stretches along the entire coast of Mavrovouni. The beach is mostly open to the public and unorganised. The exceptions mentioned are a few beach bars, located near the campsites and at the Windmill. If you are specifically looking for a beach bar, these two areas can help you find one; availability may change, so it is advisable to check before your visit.
There is no natural shade on the beach. Take this into account when planning your stay: you should not expect to find naturally shaded spots for your beach day.
Getting there and SeaTrac access
The beach can be reached via the Finikounda–Methoni provincial road. Check local conditions before setting off.
A dedicated SeaTrac access point for people with reduced mobility is located on the section of the beach by the Windmill. As its availability may change, check its current status before your visit if this access point is important to your plans. The road information concerns getting there, while the SeaTrac information refers to access at a specific section of the beach. This allows you to consider the journey and the availability of the facility separately when planning.
