Plítra brings together beaches, archaeological traces of the ancient city of Asopos and summer events. If you are looking for a hotel in Plítra, you can get a sense of the area through these different features: the central sandy beach is ideal for time by the water, the remains of Asopos tell the story of the area, and the events offer seasonal occasions. Which of these aspects shapes your stay depends on what you are looking for on your trip.

Beaches and shoreline in Plítra

The central sandy beach of Pachia Ammos has a shallow, calm shoreline; the water remains very shallow even several metres from the shore. Artanis, Kokkinies and Ammoulis are other beaches in Plítra, where swimming and fishing are possible activities. The beaches therefore offer different features: Pachia Ammos is distinguished by its shoreline, while swimming and fishing are the main activities at the other three. If the beach matters when choosing where to stay, this comparison provides a practical starting point.

Ancient Asopos: traces by the sea and inland

The ancient city of Asopos lies within the present-day settlement of Plítra and is largely submerged. Remains of buildings and tomb structures can be seen in the sea and on the beach. Inland from the ancient city near Plítra, there are also funerary monuments and an ancient quarry featuring a relief of Heracles. The remains are thus spread across two areas: those in the sea and on the beach belong to the largely submerged city, while the funerary monuments and the quarry with the relief of Heracles are inland. So the submerged city is not the only relevant feature when considering the ancient site: the inland funerary monuments and quarry are also part of the picture of Asopos.
