Accommodation in Lefkada
Several cultural points of interest shape a stay in Lefkada: the Old Town, its collections and art venues, as well as the harbor. If you are looking for a hotel, this selection can help you decide which themes you want to shape your stay. Lefkada Harbor offers numerous visitor services, including hotels and boats for day trips to the surrounding islands. For a specific day trip, check the available options and departure times in advance.
Old Town and Historic Churches
Lefkada’s Old Town has medieval features. At the heart of this neighborhood, the Public Library of Lefkada is housed in a neoclassical building. The Old Town thus brings together different architectural influences: the neighborhood’s medieval features and the library’s neoclassical building.
Two churches also tell the story of the city’s architecture. Agios Spyridon Church stands in the central square and was built in 1685. Agios Nikolaos Church is in the center of Lefkada and was rebuilt in 1830. The dates therefore refer to different periods in their histories: the construction of one church and the rebuilding of the other.
Paintings, Museums and Libraries
The Municipal Gallery is located on the ground floor of Lefkada Town Hall. Its collection includes paintings by 100 Greek and foreign artists. These artists exhibited their works for 20 years in the exhibition halls of the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Lefkada. The gallery therefore combines a collection of paintings with the artists’ earlier exhibition activity at the municipal cultural center.
The Folklore Museum of ORFEA is housed in a traditional building that was once a mansion. It is located on the main market street near the main square. The private Phonograph Museum is also on the main market street. The Haramogleia Library contains works by around 800 Lefkadian authors as well as studies about Lefkada. The library’s holdings focus both on local authors and on the city itself. If you are planning to visit either museum or the Haramogleia Library, check current visitor information in advance.
Exhibitions and a Destination Outside the City
The Theodoros Stamos Art Hall at the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Lefkada hosts annual exhibitions of painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography. If you want to plan your trip around a particular exhibition, find out about the program and specific dates in advance.
The Faneromeni Monastery, considered an important pilgrimage site, is about three kilometers outside Lefkada. The Feast of the Holy Spirit is celebrated there. If you would like to combine your trip with this feast, check the exact date before making your plans. When choosing a hotel in Lefkada, you can therefore consider both the visitor services at the harbor and the city’s art and cultural venues as different points of interest.
