If you are looking for a hotel in Aghios Petros, you can get a sense of the destination from its features and those of the surrounding area. The village has churches and other buildings; nearby Roupakias adds settlement features and a seasonal waterfall. A circular hiking route connects several of the places mentioned. The points of interest differ in location, architectural form, historical context and season.

Churches in the village

The Church of Agios Athanasios stands in the center of Ágios Pétros. It is a spacious, single-nave church with a tiled roof. “Single-nave” describes a building with one nave; this detail of its form adds a specific architectural feature to its central location. Another church in the village is the Church of the Holy Apostles. Its iconostasis dates from 1890 and is attributed to Ilias Mentsikώf. The date and attribution refer to the same iconostasis. While location and architectural form are the focus for Agios Athanasios, the dated furnishing and its attribution give the Church of the Holy Apostles its own historical context.

Windmill and chapel

An old windmill stands at the entrance to Ágios Pétros from the direction of Vasiliki. Below the village is the newly built Byzantine chapel of Ai Giannis tou Riganá. Unlike the centrally located Church of Agios Athanasios, these buildings can be identified by their respective locations at the village entrance and below the village.

Roupakias in the nearby area

Nearby Roupakias is considered a green, abandoned settlement with running water and ruined old mansions. Farmhouses have also been preserved there. Beside the hamlet, a waterfall cascades down, with a strong flow especially during the winter months. The preserved farmhouses and ruined mansions represent different conditions within the settlement. If you would also like to plan your travel dates around the waterfall, its mainly winter flow is a useful point of reference. Roupakias thus combines settlement features with a seasonal natural attraction.

Hiking route and trail planning

A circular hiking route runs from Vasiliki via Pigi, Ágios Pétros and Roupakias, and back to Vasiliki. Check the route information before setting out. The steep climb to the village square in Ágios Pétros, with its shops, takes about ten minutes. This approximate time refers to the climb, not the entire circular route. These are two different pieces of information to consider when planning: the route lists a sequence of places, while the climb has an approximate duration and steep terrain.

This also helps distinguish between different interests: the churches and buildings offer points of reference for architecture, location and history; Roupakias adds settlement features and the seasonal waterfall. The hiking route, in turn, connects several named places. You can take whichever of these considerations is most important to your trip into account when looking for a hotel in Aghios Petros.
