Mooste: Manor, Culture and Lake
Accommodation in Mooste
Mooste offers two distinct themes for planning a trip: its architectural and manor history with cultural attractions, and Lake Mooste with walking, swimming and boating activities. If you are looking for a hotel in Mooste, you can first decide which focus you want your stay to have. A guided tour with a set duration, an annual spring festival and the activities at the lake each offer different points of reference for planning your days and choosing when to travel.
Manor history and former uses of buildings
The main building of Mooste Manor was built in 1909 to a design by August Reinberg. A tour of the manor complex lasts 1.5 hours. You can set aside this specific amount of time if you want to combine the visit with other activities.
Folgikoda, also called the Folk House, is located in a former cowshed dating from 1905. Mooste Folk Music School is housed in a former storage cellar and former accommodation for workers at a distillery. It welcomes learners of all ages, who can learn traditional musical instruments there. In this way, former agricultural and industrial uses meet a present-day name and musical education.
Theatre, music and architectural heritage
The Mill Theatre is housed in a sawmill and grain mill that was renovated in 2006. The theatre hall has room for 60 visitors; the theatre is used for concerts, film screenings, conferences and theatre projects. The complex also includes a museum and an exhibition space in an adjacent former saw-frame building. The Mill Theatre complex thus brings former milling and saw-frame functions together with theatre, museum and exhibition use.
There are two distinct educational offerings related to architectural heritage. Vanaajamaja promotes traditional Estonian architecture and the renovation of log houses through training programmes. The Centre of Competence for Ecological Building offers a wide range of training programmes and organises educational and instructional events. By comparison, Vanaajamaja focuses on traditional architecture and log-house renovation, while the centre focuses on ecological building.
Moisekatsi Elohelü is an annual folk music festival held in spring. As a recurring spring event, it can help guide your choice of when to travel. A workshop has a shop at the front where you can browse and buy the workshop’s products.
Walks and activities at Lake Mooste
Lake Mooste has a swimming area with a sandy beach and a hiking trail for walks around the lake. You can rent boats at the Mooste Distillery Guesthouse for trips on Lake Mooste. There are several options for spending time by the water: walks around the lake, swimming at the sandy beach and boating on the lake.
There are two different points of reference for planning your schedule: the manor tour has a set duration, while the festival takes place in spring.
