Discover Jõesuu: Suspension Bridge, Cider and Directions
Accommodation in Jõesuu
Plan your stay in Jõesuu around three specific things: the suspension bridge over the Pärnu, an arranged visit to Tori Siidritalu, and the spinning competition in Tori-Jõesuu. The directions also give two different starting points. If you’re looking for a hotel, it helps to first decide whether your trip is mainly shaped by a visit, an event date, or the route.
River, bridge and place name
The Jõesuu suspension bridge crosses the Pärnu River and is located in the Soomaa National Park region. It was built in 1975. These details describe the structure in two different ways: the Pärnu is the river crossed by the bridge, while the Soomaa region establishes its regional setting.
The name Jõesuu küla in Pärnumaa refers to the nearby confluence where the Navesti flows into the Pärnu. This gives you two distinct river references: the bridge crosses the Pärnu, while the explanation of the name concerns the confluence of the Navesti and the Pärnu. This distinction is useful for understanding the geography, as it separates the bridge crossing from the explanation of the village name.
The spinning competition in Tori-Jõesuu has been held since 1976. In comparison, the bridge was built a year earlier: 1975 marks the structure, and 1976 the start of the competition. If you want to plan your stay around this event, check the specific event dates.
Visiting Tori Siidritalu
The production building at Tori Siidritalu houses the Siidrisalong, a space for welcoming guests that was completed in autumn 2018. During a visit to the farm, guests learn about cider and wine production and taste the farm’s products. The Siidrisalong also serves visitors to Soomaa as a place to take a break with a glass of cider or a cup of coffee. Visitors are asked to arrange their visit in advance, as operating schedules may change.
Directions and distances
From Tori, the route towards Soomaa goes via Võlli tee and then continues for 6 km along Jõesuu tee to the settlement of Jõesuu. These six kilometres refer to the section up to the settlement, not the entire route to Soomaa. On the route via Kõpu-Jõesuu road, the distance from the junction before Jõesuu to the RMK Soomaa Visitor Centre in Kõrtsi-Tõramaa is 14.4 km. The two figures therefore refer to different starting points: Tori for one route and the junction before Jõesuu for the other. Road conditions may change; check the route before setting out.
When planning your hotel stay, it’s worth considering these points separately: a visit to Tori Siidritalu requires advance arrangements, the competition depends on a specific event date, and the route depends on your starting point. First decide on the main reason for your stay, then plan your hotel and route accordingly.
