Raasiku Parish: Nature, Culture and Movement
Accommodation in Raasiku Parish
When looking for a hotel in Raasiku Parish, you can consider whether landscape, cultural history or exercise will shape your stay. Raasiku Parish combines a flat landscape typical of the North Estonian Plain with bogs and protected areas, historic sites, and opportunities for exercise and culture.
Landscape and Nature
Raasiku Parish is characterized by moraine plains, small drumlins and flat uplands. There are particularly many small drumlins along the Raasiku–Perila–Kiviloo line. The relief is therefore not entirely flat: these small rises shape the landscape within the North Estonian Plain.
Peningi Bog consists exclusively of peat. Paraspõllu Nature Reserve lies within Raasiku Parish and provides a valuable habitat for orchids. Kiviloo Protected Area is also within the parish. Lõilasmäe Lake is the only natural lake in Raasiku Parish. The bog, orchid habitat and natural body of water thus represent different aspects of the landscape.
Church History and Parks
Harju-Jaani Church was first mentioned in a document in 1322; Saientacken is its historical name. Construction of the present-day church began in 1860, and it was consecrated on October 13, 1863. The early mention and the later construction of the present-day church mark different stages in its history.
Peningi Manor Park is a protected historic park in Raasiku Parish. Smaragd Arboretum is different in its design: it is a two-hectare ornamental garden in the English style and also an arboretum. Work on the site began in 1985. Peningi Manor Park is distinguished by its protected historic status, while Smaragd is defined by its size, garden style and character as an arboretum.
Exercise in Aruküla and Raasiku
The Aruküla health trail is a 2.2-kilometer illuminated exercise trail with a large and a small loop. The shorter loop is 600 meters long. A 3.9-kilometer cyclocross track for cycling enthusiasts runs alongside the trail. The short loop and the longer cyclocross track therefore differ both in length and in their described use. As operating details may change, check the latest information about the trail before your visit.
As of January 21, 2026, the Raasiku pump track is registered as an outdoor BMX race track for BMX racing, BMX freestyle and skateboarding. Alongside the exercise trail and cyclocross track, BMX and skateboarding are also distinct activities to consider.
Cultural Life
Raasiku Community Centre has been continuously active and offered a diverse program since 1964. It offers activities for people from infancy through old age and holds several folk culture events throughout the year. Aruküla Cultural Society shapes cultural life in the Aruküla region and offers concerts, theater and performances. Their focuses differ: the Community Centre emphasizes activities for different age groups and folk culture events throughout the year, while the Cultural Society focuses on concerts, theater and performances. If a particular event is important to your trip, check its date in advance.
