Kiili Parish brings together a range of themes for trip planning: forest trails, outdoor activities, karst phenomena and cultural history. The health trails vary in length and the activities they offer; other places focus on geological features or historical connections. If you are looking for a hotel in Kiili Parish, these highlights can help you tailor your stay to your interests.

Health trails for outdoor activities

The health trail in Kiili Park runs along forest paths and is 1 km long in total. Along the way, it passes the ruins of Peter I’s trenches. This trail combines a short route with a named historic site. The Kangru municipal health trail has a different character: it runs through a pine forest and is suitable for walking, running and cycling. The trail features an outdoor gym, a children’s playground, and basketball and volleyball courts.

The Vaela health trail can also be compared by length and facilities. It is 1.4 km long and is located in Mõisaküla, Kiili Parish, at Väljamäe tee 9. By comparison, the trail in Kiili Park is 0.4 km shorter. In winter, you can cross-country ski on the Vaela health trail using both classic and freestyle techniques. There is also an outdoor gym and a low ropes course. The trails therefore differ not only in length, but also in the activities and leisure facilities mentioned for each.

Karst phenomena and navigation

The Nabala-Paekna route is marked with the letters NPM. Information boards display maps showing your current location and the route ahead. The route lists the Nabala prayer house as its first point. It gives bus 116 from Baltijaam as an access option; check the current timetable before travelling.

The area’s karst phenomena include the Kalamäe spring, the Kuristiku sinkhole and the Paekna spring lake. At the Kalamäe spring, hikers can take spring water to quench their thirst. At the Kuristiku sinkhole, a connection has formed between the underground and surface worlds. The Paekna spring lake is also a karst phenomenon and is fed by underground rivers. The three places thus represent different relationships with water: a spring, a connection between the underground and surface worlds, and a lake fed by underground rivers.

Cultural history and events

The site of the old Looba settlement and the cup-marked stone are associated with settlement dating back about 3,000 years. Two other historical dates are relevant to Nabala: the village was first mentioned around 1220 in the Danish Census Book, while Nabala Manor appears in a document from 1475. Golf croquet is available on the lawn at Nabala Manor.

The events page lists an edition of the Luige Maaelu Näituslaat in Luige, Kiili Parish, for 2027. It describes this edition as featuring an exhibition of animals and birds, as well as craftspeople from across Estonia. If you include this event in your trip plans, check the dates for the 2027 edition in advance.

The stated trail lengths allow a direct comparison of two of the routes; for the other options, different activities and interests take centre stage.
