The village is close to the spa town of Luhačovice, but has its own distinctive landscape: Podhradí is surrounded by forests on three sides and lies in the valley of the Pozlovický potok. The access road to Podhradí ends at the village. The local springs, trails and historic buildings offer different points of interest to help you plan your visit.

Forest, Valley and Springs

The sulphur spring Sirčena rises at the upper end of Podhradí. Its protected surroundings include a purpose-built rest area. Another spring, Sojsinka, is on the nature trail below Starý Světlov. The two locations are easy to distinguish: Sirčena is at the upper end of the village, while Sojsinka is on the nature trail below the castle site. Near Turecký kříž grows the rare Jeřab oskeruše tree, estimated to be more than 300 years old. These natural features add specific named stops to the forests and valley.

Starý Světlov Castle and Local Architecture

Northwest of Podhradí lie the extensive remains of the medieval Starý Světlov Castle, built in the 14th century. Simple steps have been installed on hard-to-access sections to prevent visitors from damaging the terrain. An information system presents the castle’s history. Guided castle tours and talks about the history and significance of the site take place there every year. Podhradí organises them in cooperation with the National Heritage Institute and the Museum of the Luhačovice Zálesí region. If you plan to attend a tour or talk, check the dates in advance.

You can also encounter regional architecture in the village itself: Podhradí’s wooden bell tower is a characteristic example of the folk architecture of Luhačovské Zálesí. A wooden log chapel is typologically reminiscent of Jurkovič’s buildings at Pustevny. Turecký kříž is a stone cross dating from 1663 and a memorial to the Turkish wars. Together with the castle ruins, these buildings reflect different aspects of local history.

Walking Trails, Cycling Route and Summer

A number of marked walking trails pass through Podhradí and its surroundings. The blue-marked trail from Luhačovice to Čertovy skály is about 30 kilometres long and passes through Podhradí. Its route goes via Pozlovice, Starý Světlov, Spletený vrch, Kláštov, Svéradov and Mount Kopce. These named stops can help you gauge the approximate distance when choosing a hike. The “Na Komonec nad Luhačovicemi” route connects a nature trail, marked walking trails and forest paths, and can also be ridden by mountain bike.

During the hot summer months, a small reservoir on the edge of the village offers a place to swim outdoors. Podhradí also hosts the Anenská pouť in summer, known locally as the Podhradská pouť. The festival includes an extensive cultural programme and fairground rides; individual programme details may vary. Whether you plan to focus your stay on trails and nature or on the castle and local history, these differences offer concrete points of reference when choosing your destination.
