Ludkovice offers several specific points of interest to shape your trip around: the Čertův kámen Natural Monument, the water reservoir, landmarks from local history and a cycle route that passes through the village. These highlights are clearly distinct from one another. The rock formations give the nature theme a tangible form, the reservoir can be understood in terms of its dimensions and functions, and the historical information ranges from the first written mention to a sacred monument with a precisely documented date. If you are looking for a hotel in Ludkovice, these differences can help you assess what the place has to offer during your stay.

Čertův kámen Natural Monument

The Čertův kámen Natural Monument extends across the cadastral areas of Ludkovice and Provodov na Moravě. The rock formation is 16 m long and lies on the northeastern slope of Rýsov. At Čertův kámen, tafoni-type rock cavities reach a height of up to 1.3 m. The two figures describe different scales: 16 m is the length of the rock formation, while 1.3 m is the maximum height of the cavities. This means that the focus is not only on a natural monument as an area, but also on a precisely described rock formation with a specific surface structure. If you are interested in geology and landscapes, this combination of overall extent and individual cavities is a particularly distinctive feature of Čertův kámen.

Reservoir and landscape

The Ludkovice water reservoir lies above Ludkovice and is one of the smallest reservoirs in the entire Morava River basin. The dam is 181 m long and rises more than 15 m above the valley floor. Its size and functions tell different parts of the same story: the measurements describe the structure, while the drinking water supply and flood protection describe its purpose. The Ludkovická přehrada lies within the cadastral area of Ludkovice and serves the drinking water needs of the surrounding area as well as providing flood protection for communities along the Ludkovický potok. The catchment area is mostly forested and has no concentrated development. The sports and cultural area below the Ludkovická přehrada is used during the summer months. As use may vary by season, check when the area is in use before visiting.

Local history and religious services

The earliest written mention of Ludkovice dates from 1412. Another clearly dated landmark is the Boží muka at Obora, which dates from 1719. It stands at the intersection of four roads and four cadastral areas, and is of considerable artistic as well as historical value. Its precise location at the intersection makes the connection with the cadastral boundaries visible alongside its date. Services are held in Ludkovice every second Wednesday; midnight Masses are celebrated annually at Christmas. A chapel was consecrated in Ludkovice on 28 October 1995. Thus, recurring services sit alongside a precisely dated historical event.
