Nový Rychnov combines a setting in a valley in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands with clearly identifiable natural and historical features. Ponds, protected habitats and an old tree stand alongside a Gothic church, a castle remodelled in the Renaissance style and the remains of a field fortification. When planning your trip, it may be helpful to consider whether you would like to get to know the town through its landscape, architectural history or an event.

Landscape, Ponds and Trails

Nový Rychnov lies in a valley surrounded by hills in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands; forests, meadows and ponds characterise the surrounding area. The Ivaniny rybníčky natural monument protects pond habitats with specially protected species. It is located in the Pelhřimov District, within both the market town of Nový Rychnov, in the cadastral area of Sázava pod Křemešníkem, and the municipality of Proseč pod Křemešníkem, in the cadastral area of Proseč pod Křemešníkem. This links the valley’s broader landscape with a specifically named protected area and its pond habitats.

Another natural feature is the protected oak at the inlet of the former mill, towards Rohozná. It is more than 150 years old. While the focus at Ivaniny rybníčky is on pond habitats and specially protected species, the oak is a single protected tree with a long history. There are also good opportunities for hiking and cycling around Nový Rychnov. If outdoor activity is part of your reason for travelling, this is another aspect to consider when choosing the town, alongside its named natural features.

Church, Castle and Historical Traces

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built in the Gothic style between 1343 and 1363; the presbytery is the surviving part of the original building. The castle represents a different architectural history: the Leskovec family remodelled it in the Renaissance style as a rural aristocratic residence. The church and castle therefore offer different historical points of interest: on the one hand, a Gothic origin and a surviving part of the original church building; on the other, a remodelling in the Renaissance style.

The V Šancích field fortification adds to this picture. Its ditches and ramparts have survived. Alongside the religious building and the castle, this adds another kind of historical feature: the remains of a fortification. If you like to consider different aspects of a town’s history when choosing a destination, you can view these fortifications and buildings as distinct themes.

The museum’s location is specified with a date: a notice from the municipality dated 16 September 2024 placed it on the lower floor of the former savings bank building, house number 160. The building had previously housed a drugstore. This information relates to the notice at the time and offers a specific connection to a former shop in the town.

Events and Trip Planning

Novorychnovské stezky is a traditional event in Nový Rychnov. The 2026 edition was scheduled for 5 September, with the start and finish planned at the municipal restaurant by the town hall. Z Nadhledu is an annual event in Nový Rychnov. The edition on 3 January 2026 followed a marked route to a stop by a fire. These are two different event dates in 2026: one in September and one in January, each with its own location and programme details.

If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the dates for the period when you intend to travel. The dates given relate to specific editions in 2026. When choosing a destination more generally, you can also consider whether to focus on the pond landscape and outdoor activities, the different historic buildings or the events calendar.
