Visitors choosing Opatov as a destination can plan their stay around two themes: the history of the village and the landscape around the Jankovský potok. The Evangelical church, the cemetery and several memorial sites provide tangible points of reference for its history. The Prameniště Jankovského potoka Nature Reserve offers a distinct connection with nature. When looking for a hotel, this distinction can help you first decide which interests will shape your stay.

The Evangelical Church and Local History

Opatov was founded in the 13th century through the colonisation efforts of Želiv Monastery. The Evangelical church in Opatov is a Pseudo-Romanesque building designed by Josef Bláha from Kostelec. It was built between 1864 and 1868 and opened on 1 November 1868. The term “Pseudo-Romanesque” refers to a design inspired by Romanesque architectural forms. The church thus provides a distinct architectural point of reference for the village’s history, from a much later period.

The church interior is simple and airy, with tall windows creating a bright atmosphere. It can accommodate up to 170 people. If you would like to see the interior, ask in advance about the possibility of visiting.

The Cemetery and Memorial Sites

The Evangelical cemetery dates from 1870; several gravestones belong to the final quarter of the 19th century. The cemetery and gravestones therefore point to different periods within the same century. Together with the church, they offer another way to explore the village’s history, this time through its cemetery culture.

Polánka is a district of Opatov. It is home to a commemorative lime tree and a historic mill. These two points of interest offer different perspectives: the lime tree is a memorial, while the mill provides another historical point of reference. Polánka thus adds other examples of local heritage to the church and cemetery.

Nearby cultural monuments include a stone memorial cross, two kilometres northeast of the village on the road to Zbilidy. It is listed as immovable cultural monument No. 5417. One kilometre northeast of the village, in the Hovorkův les forest, are the remains of silver mines; these are also listed as an immovable cultural monument, under No. 5051. The locations distinguish the two sites: the cross is identified by the road to Zbilidy, and the mine remains by Hovorkův les forest.

Natural Surroundings and Getting Your Bearings

The Jankovský potok forms the western boundary of Opatov’s cadastral area. The Prameniště Jankovského potoka Nature Reserve also extends into this cadastral area and has been designated a protected area under a regional legal instrument. The stream and the reserve provide different geographical points of reference: the stream forms the western boundary, while the reserve includes part of Opatov’s cadastral area.

Opatov is near the road connecting Jihlava and Pelhřimov. This provides an additional way to get your bearings, while the village’s history and the nature reserve are the main points of interest.

Find a Hotel to Suit Your Interests

When looking for a hotel, use the focus of your trip as your first filter: are you most interested in the Evangelical church, the cemetery and the historic sites, or would you rather focus on nature? You can then compare specific hotel offers against your travel dates and personal requirements.
