Nové Dvory lies in the landscape along the Sázava River; the centre is dominated by the Neo-Gothic Chapel of the Virgin Mary. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Nové Dvory, you can consider whether the chapel and memorial sites or one of the routes will shape your stay.

Chapel and Memorial Sites

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built in 1901 by the master builder Pecháček from Přibyslav. Its side walls have pointed-arch windows; the narrow entrance in the façade also has a pointed arch. This recurring design motif connects the windows and entrance and makes the architectural description specific. Together with its Neo-Gothic style, this provides a clear focus for anyone interested in sacred architecture.

A memorial to those who fell in the First World War was unveiled next to the chapel on 18 August 2013. On the right-hand side there is also a memorial to a Red Army soldier who died there on 14 May 1945. The two memorial sites relate to different groups and dates: one commemorates those who fell in the First World War, while the other marks the death of an individual soldier in May 1945. Together, they form a distinct historical point of interest alongside the chapel’s architecture.

Local History and Tradition

The settlement of Nové Dvory was first mentioned in writing in 1444. The chapel was built much later, in 1901. This time gap helps distinguish the history of the settlement from the construction history of its central place of worship.

A municipal description from 2021 mentions an annual Mass in the chapel on the third Sunday in August. It is celebrated in thanksgiving for the harvest and blessings received. If this celebration is important to your travel plans, check the latest date information in advance.

Routes and Practical Planning

A route descends from the summit of Peperek through Velká Losenice, Nové Dvory, Buková and Nížkov to Rosička. KČT cycling route no. 19 runs through Rosička, Nížkov, Buková, Nové Dvory and Přibyslav. The descriptions emphasise different things: the Peperek route is identified by its descent from the summit and Rosička as its destination; KČT no. 19 is designated as a cycling route. Check current route conditions before setting out.

A wayside cross stands on the outskirts of Nové Dvory. According to a local resident, it was moved to its current location from a disused cemetery. Thus, alongside the dated memorial sites, local tradition also contributes to the history of the area.

An infrastructure update can also be placed in time: in 2023, a bus shelter was refurbished and the asphalt surface was renewed in Nové Dvory. For a bus journey, the timetable for your travel date is what matters; you should also take the current road conditions into account before travelling by car.
