The village houses are scattered along the Libochůvka stream. Wooded ridges, the Nebohý pond and several historic memorials complete the picture. The chapel, crosses and atonement or reconciliation stone each provide their own points of reference. Kundratice thus offers a range of themes to help you decide how to approach the destination during your stay.

Landscape along the Libochůvka stream

Kundratice lies in the Křižanovská vrchovina, a region characterised by wooded ridges. The village houses are spread along the Libochůvka stream, making it a specific point of reference for the local setting. The Nebohý pond is also one of the ponds in the landscape around Kundratice. The stream and pond identify different water features, while the wooded ridges characterise the wider landscape. Together, these details help you understand Kundratice not only through its historic buildings, but also through its landscape. When planning your trip and weighing nature against local history, you can consider them as distinct themes.

Crosses and historic heritage

The wooden cross in Kundratice was restored in 1998. Another distinctive object is the atonement or reconciliation stone Smírčí kámen u Kundratic, which dates from the 1770s. A Gothic cross is carved into the stone; it was originally broken in two, but has since been restored. Its front bears a shallow engraved cross relief: the vertical shaft has a rounded end and is flanked by two smaller crosses. Its date, visible design and restoration offer different points of interest if you are interested in the history and preservation of this stone.

In the eastern part of the village green stands the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, together with a stone cross bearing a cast-iron corpus of Christ. A commemorative plaque remembers ThDr. Josef Křenek, a prominent representative of the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren. These memorials broaden the picture beyond the two crosses and the atonement or reconciliation stone: they include both religious buildings and the commemoration of a figure from church life. Several different forms of remembrance are therefore linked to Kundratice’s history.

Pilgrimage and cycling routes

The time of your trip may also matter: Kundratice traditionally holds a pilgrimage to Saint Florian on the first Sunday in May. If you would like to plan your trip around this tradition, check the exact date and programme in advance.
