Horní Rápotice offers travelers concrete starting points for an active trip and for an interest in cultural history: the “Po stopách gotiky” cycling route, winter cross-country ski route C, and the brick Boží muka shrines on the southern edge of the village.

Cycling and Cross-Country Skiing

The “Po stopách gotiky” cycling route—roughly, “In the Footsteps of Gothic”—runs mainly along roads and forest and field paths. It passes the Peruš pond and then reaches Horní Rápotice. Two aspects are therefore relevant when planning: the route includes different types of paths, and its sequence of places leads from the pond onward to the village. The Gothic name provides a cultural-historical context; the type of path described is equally important for the actual ride. Conditions on individual sections may change. If the surface matters for your ride, check the current conditions before setting out.

Winter cross-country ski route C runs from Brunka through Horní Rápotice and onward toward Háj, covering 25.6 km. A shorter variant through Horní Rápotice is 11 km long. Both routes pass through the village, but differ in length by 14.6 km. If distance is your selection criterion, the two options are easy to compare directly: Route C is the longer one, while the 11 km variant is the shorter. Actual grooming depends on snow conditions. Before planning a day of cross-country skiing, check whether the route is currently groomed.

The routes offer different ways to make a direct comparison: for “Po stopách gotiky,” the types of paths and the sequence of Peruš pond–Horní Rápotice are the main considerations; for Route C, distance and grooming dependent on snow conditions are key. The sequence of places also differs: the cycling route reaches Horní Rápotice after Peruš, while the cross-country ski route comes from Brunka and continues toward Háj. This lets you choose an activity based on specific features, rather than on the theme alone.

Boží muka Shrines on the Southern Edge of the Village

The brick Boží muka shrines stand on the southern edge of Horní Rápotice, beside the road toward Humpolec. Their square rubble-stone base supports a rectangular brick shaft. Above it sits a slightly wider, solid chapel with a gabled roof and a large niche topped by a round arch. From bottom to top, the structure has a tiered composition: the square base supports the rectangular shaft, which is topped by the wider chapel. The change in material from rubble stone to brick reinforces this composition. The niche defines the upper section, while the gabled roof forms the top. Those interested in religious architecture can consider the building’s materials, forms and proportions together. Its location on the southern edge of the village and the road toward Humpolec help situate the site.
