Horní Krupá combines church architecture and Protestant history with landscape features, hiking and cycling trails, and nature programs. When planning your trip, you can decide whether architecture and historical dates, a particular route, or a nature theme will be the deciding factor.

Churches and Protestant history

The Neo-Gothic Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built in the center of Horní Krupá in 1895. The Protestant church follows a different architectural style: the single-nave Neoclassical prayer house has tall windows with arched upper sections and a triangular gable. The church was built in 1847 and consecrated on October 30 of the same year. The independent Protestant congregation was founded in 1867. The construction and consecration of the church, on the one hand, and the later founding of the congregation, on the other, mark different stages in the town’s history. Together with the chapel built in 1895, they form a timeline that distinguishes between two sacred buildings and the development of the congregation.

Landscape with a tree, a viewpoint and waterways

A protected European beech stands near Horní Krupá and is estimated to be about 300 years old. Its trunk circumference is 620 centimeters. Volský vrch is 598 meters high, is considered the highest point in the wider area, and offers a view. Streams and ponds are also part of the landscape: the Jilemský potok flows through Horní Krupá, and several ponds have been created along it and the Krupský potok. The nature attractions range from an individual protected tree to a viewpoint and waterways.

Hiking trails, a cycling route and history along the way

A blue-marked hiking trail runs through Horní Krupá from Vepříkov via Jilem and Lysá to Havlíčkův Brod. Cycling route 4153 runs below Trčolec toward Knyk. The reference points differ: the hiking trail lists a sequence of places, while the cycling route refers to Trčolec and the direction of Knyk.

An educational trail leads from Horní Krupá to Krátecké lesy and Jelení studánka; its information panels cover nature and history. The historic spring is in Krátecké lesy, west of Horní Krupá. After the Battle of White Mountain, the Bohemian Brethren gathered there for secret religious services. Nature studies and religious history therefore come together as distinct themes along this route.
