Horní Dubenky brings together mill history and architecture with a landscape shaped by wetlands and extensive forests. Trails and cultural events add to these themes. To help plan your trip, you can first decide whether you would like to explore the town mainly through its architectural history, nature or a particular route. This lets you include different interests in your plans without treating the various sights and trails as if they were the same.

Mill and architectural history

The Chadimův mlýn Mill Museum displays the complete equipment of a modern village mill from 1926 across four floors. The date places the mill on display in its historical context. Chadimův mlýn is also home to a Francis turbine, which replaced the mill wheel. The museum highlights both the mill's equipment and a specific change in its technology. Visitor parking is available at the mill museum.

Another focus of cultural history is the church of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren. The building is single-nave and late Baroque, and its tower has a square floor plan. These features provide clear reference points if you are interested in architectural styles. The church underwent extensive restoration between 2012 and 2016. This restoration is part of the building's more recent history and should be distinguished from its late Baroque architectural classification.

Wetlands, forests and trails

Numerous wetlands and extensive forests shape the landscape of Horní Dubenky. The Ještěnice Natural Monument adds a named protected natural site located in Horní Dubenky. Alongside individual cultural sites, the landscape and nature are therefore also distinct themes to choose from for a trip.

Several trails offer different geographical reference points. Cycling Route No. 5128 passes through Horní Dubenky from Jihlávka to Batelov. The Otakar Březina Nature Trail also passes through the town. The 11-kilometre route “From the Source of the Jihlava River to the Janštejn Glassworks” has several stops in Horní Dubenky.

Another named route is the Březina Trail: it leads to Horní Dubenky and then continues along the Bor pond to Jihlávka. Here, the pond and the direction of the onward route provide reference points when choosing a route. This trail should be distinguished from Cycling Route No. 5128, whose stated endpoints are Jihlávka and Batelov.

Nearby places and cultural events

Other nearby reference points include Studánka Páně spring and the remains of Janštejn Castle's tower. Studánka Páně spring is near the summit of Javořice, about 500 metres below it. The remains of the Gothic tower of Janštejn Castle stand on a wooded, rocky rise between Nová Ves and Horní Dubenky.

Cultural events include the gathering “Parrésia, or The Paradise of the Heart and the Labyrinth of the World,” held in Horní Dubenky during the summer months and bringing together the Gospel and culture. Programme dates vary. If you would like to plan your trip around the gathering, check the dates for the relevant programme in advance.

The Masopust carnival procession usually takes place on the weekend before Ash Wednesday. If this event is important to your trip, check the specific date for the year in question before making plans. Together with the summer gathering, the procession offers another way to experience the town's cultural life at a particular time of year.
