Cernov: Cultural History and Cvilínek
Accommodation in Cernov
Cernov offers several clearly distinct historical and cultural points of interest: architectural heritage, school history, the mining and ore-processing settlement of Cvilínek, Obchůzka lucek and a designated viewpoint. They span the town’s earlier history, intangible folk culture and landscape.
Architectural Heritage and School History
In Cernov, the Boží muka is designated as an immovable cultural monument. House No. 7 is designated as a farmstead of architectural value. The two designations emphasize different aspects: for the Boží muka, the monument status is paramount; for House No. 7, it is the architectural value.
The school’s history adds a long record of use to this architectural heritage. The second floor of the school building was added in 1884. The school operated for more than a century and closed in 1977. The dates mark different milestones: 1884, the building’s expansion; 1977, the end of school operations. The school can therefore be understood both through a specific change to the building and through its long history of use.
Cvilínek: Mining and Ore Processing
Cvilínek is an exceptionally well-preserved 13th-century mining and ore-processing settlement. It lies in the valley of the upper reaches of the Kamenička, 550 m northeast of the center of Cernov. The location places Cvilínek in relation to the town center, while the description of the facilities explains the settlement’s function.
At Cvilínek, well-preserved wooden channels and channel runs carried water into wooden basins, where ore was washed. This makes ore processing tangible as a specific activity: water conveyance and ore washing went hand in hand. Compared with the school’s history, Cvilínek reaches back to a much earlier period: the settlement dates from the 13th century, while the school milestones concern 1884 and 1977.
The Obchůzka lucek Tradition
At the end of 2024, Obchůzka lucek was added under No. 12/2024 to the List of Intangible Elements of Traditional Folk Culture of the Vysočina Region. At that time, the tradition had been authentically preserved in Cernov; the listing covered Cernov and Chrástov and was made on account of its uniqueness and authenticity. The regional authority documented the entry in January 2025. As an expression of intangible folk culture, Obchůzka lucek differs from the architectural heritage and the archaeological settlement. The timeline thus stretches from the 13th-century settlement to the 2024 listing.
Šandův kopec and Trip Planning
Šandův kopec is designated as a significant viewpoint in Cernov. This landscape feature adds another dimension to the historical and cultural themes. When looking for a hotel in Cernov, you can weigh the options according to your travel interests: architectural and school history, the mining and ore-processing settlement, folk culture or the designated viewpoint.
