When looking for a hotel in Bohušice, the planned focus of your stay may be decisive. The area can be explored through specific points of interest: the Bohušický rybník and the Rokytka, the castle’s history, the chapel “Kaple svatých Cyrila a Metoděje,” and information about cycling and hiking routes.

Pond Landscape and Fishing

The Bohušický rybník is located southwest of Bohušice. It is used for fish farming and covers an area of about 15 hectares. Bohušice also lies on the left bank of the Rokytka. This is equivalent to around 150,000 square metres.

Fishing at the pond is possible on a catch-and-release basis: caught fish are released back into the water. At present, fishing is permitted there on weekends by prior arrangement with the owner. If you plan to take advantage of this option, confirm the arrangement again before your trip.

Castle History

Construction of the castle in Bohušice began in July 1736. An artificial grotto was built in the castle garden. After a fire in 1781, the remains were partly demolished and converted into a farmyard.

Chapel, Spring and Tradition

The chapel “Kaple svatých Cyrila a Metoděje” is a rectangular building with a three-sided apse. It stands on a slight rise in a wooded area.

A staircase descending downhill, with a stone balustrade, leads to a spring; the chapel was built above this spring. A marble plaque on the chapel records the oral tradition that Cyril and Methodius preached and baptised at this site around 865. A small park by the chapel contains a monument to the citizens who fell in the First World War. The inscription records that in 1924 the citizens of Bohušice dedicated the monument to the victims of the World War. The chapel was restored in 2002: its wooden roof turret and roof were replaced, with the new roof following the old design exactly. The “lindens of freedom” planted next to the monument were later felled. An inscription on the foundation stone gives the date it was laid as 5 July 1871; this date marks the laying of the foundation stone.

Cycling and Hiking Information, Railway Station

A cycling trip followed cycle route 5110 (Jihlava–Raabs) in the direction of Lažínek. The Březinova cesta, by contrast, is a hiking route marked with the RWN designation and the red KČT main trail markers. For the cycle route, follow the number and direction towards Lažínek; for the hiking route, follow its name and markings. Check the current markings on site.

Bohušice railway station offers step-free access to the station building or stop, as well as to all platforms. If you need assistance, check the access arrangements relevant to your needs before travelling.
