Bohdalov: Nature and History
Accommodation in Bohdalov
Bohdalov offers two distinct themes to help you plan your trip: local history centered around St. Lawrence Church, and the nature of Bohdalovsko Nature Park. There is also Laguna u Bohdalova, a 34 km-long nature trail and regular bus connections to Žďár nad Sázavou, MěřĂn, Polná and Jihlava.
Nature and the Nature Trail
Bohdalovsko Nature Park encompasses numerous ponds and is also characterized by peat bogs and diverse wildlife. This gives nature enthusiasts several specific points of interest: bodies of water, bog landscapes and wildlife. If nature is a particular priority when choosing a destination, you can see how Bohdalov matches your interests by considering these features. The varied landscape and nature themes offer more than one possible focus.
Laguna u Bohdalova is another place with a strong connection to nature. It is home to aquatic and wetland flora and fauna, as well as specially protected species. The pools at the Laguna were created after brick clay was extracted. The habitats here are therefore linked to a specific history of past land use. If you are interested in nature and how human activity shapes landscapes, both themes come together here.
The nature trail through Bohdalovsko Nature Park is 34 km long. Its total length makes it a distinct factor to consider when planning; take it into account when deciding how much of your trip to devote to the trail. One stop includes Bohdalov and Chroustov, as well as the Baba – V bukách Nature Reserve. Confirm the current route and local access before your visit.
Church and Cultural History
St. Lawrence Church is the most prominent landmark in Bohdalov’s village square. It is a Baroque church with origins in the second half of the 13th century; it was renovated between 1736 and 1759. Its Baroque classification and medieval origins refer to different periods in its history. For those interested in cultural history, the church offers a tangible introduction to the local architectural heritage.
Amateur theater is also part of local cultural history. The tradition was revived in 1992 after a twenty-year hiatus. This extends the cultural connection beyond architectural history to include a theater tradition. If you would like to make a performance the occasion for your trip, check specific dates in advance. The term “amateur theater” refers to theater performed by non-professionals.
