Třebušín: Kalich Castle, Local History and Landscape
Accommodation in Třebušín
Třebušín combines local history with the landscape of the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Třebušín, Kalich Castle, the Parish Church of St. Nicholas, hiking and cycling routes, and Machčák Pond can offer different focuses for your trip. For planning, cultural history, nature and transport can be considered as separate topics.
Local History, Castle and Church
The oldest written record of Třebušín dates from 1169. Kalich Castle belongs to a later period: Jan Žižka of Trocnov had it built in 1421 after conquering an earlier fortress and named it after the chalice. From the castle, you can see Třebušín, Litoměřice and the Elbe Lowland.
The Parish Church of St. Nicholas is first mentioned in 1384. It was destroyed during the Hussite Wars and restored many years later. Together with its surrounding wall and gate, it is listed as a cultural monument. The chateau in Třebušín is also a valuable local monument; Renaissance structures have been preserved in the cellar rooms and on the ground floor of the north wing. The church and chateau therefore highlight different historical aspects: the church’s eventful history and the preserved Renaissance architecture.
The dates refer to different points of reference: 1169 to the oldest written record of the settlement, 1384 to the church’s first mention, and 1421 to the construction of the castle. This makes it possible to place the local, church and castle histories in context without conflating them into a single event.
Landscape in the České středohoří
The entire municipal area of Třebušín lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. The area is characterized by the unique relief of a volcanic mountain range formed in the Late Tertiary, diverse geology, rich flora and distinctive fauna. From Kalich Castle, you can see Třebušín, Litoměřice and the Elbe Lowland. This means the protected-area status of the entire municipal area and the specific views from Kalich offer different perspectives on the landscape.
Hiking, Cycling and Machčák Pond
The long-distance trail Zlatá stezka Zemí hradů passes through the municipal area; several cycling routes also run through Třebušín. For planning, hiking and cycling can be considered as separate focuses: one named long-distance trail and several cycling routes.
Machčák Pond lies south of Třebušín and is used for recreation. Swimming is permitted at your own risk. If you plan to swim, check the current swimming conditions locally.
