Tavíkovice combines a settlement history dating back to the 11th century with the Rokytná river valley and themed trails. For travellers looking for a hotel, this offers a range of options: local history, cycling, hiking or the traditional pilgrimage.

Castle and Local History

The settlement of Tavíkovice dates back to the 11th century; it was first mentioned in writing in 1349. Its settlement history therefore predates its first written record. A medieval fortress stood on the site of today’s castle.

The castle is a valuable, originally single-storey Renaissance building that was later altered in the Baroque and Classical styles. It has been protected as a Czech cultural monument since 3 May 1958. The castle complex is surrounded by a landscape park dating from the mid-19th century. Renaissance, Baroque and Classical styles reflect the castle’s different architectural influences; the park adds its own landscape character to the complex.

The Chapel of Our Lady, Mother of Unity of Christians, was completed and consecrated on 19 May 2002. It adds a building from the early 21st century to the town’s older historical landmarks.

The Rokytná Valley and Nature Park

The Rokytná River flows through Tavíkovice, winding through a deep valley. Coniferous and deciduous forests line the slopes and shape the landscape. In the regional context, Tavíkovice is considered a smaller centre of the Rokytná Nature Park. The 35-kilometre-long nature park lies on the border between the districts of Třebíč and Znojmo. Its landscape includes meandering streams, rocks, flat floodplain meadows, scree habitats, and a mix of coniferous and deciduous forests.

Tavíkovice also has an outdoor swimming area.

Cycling and Hiking Trails

The Mlynářská stezka (Millers’ Trail) is a themed cycling route devoted to the history of milling. It is 81.6 kilometres long and passes through Tavíkovice. This is the length of the entire route; Tavíkovice lies along its course. The milling theme adds a different cultural and historical focus to the castle’s architectural history.

A yellow-marked hiking trail starts on the outskirts of Tavíkovice and follows a stream downstream into the valley. Valův mlýn, a protected immovable cultural monument of the Czech Republic, lies on a hiking route from Tavíkovice through the Rokytná Valley. Nezvalova stezka was opened in a wooded setting in 1962.

Pilgrimage and Getting There

The traditional Tavíkovice pilgrimage includes a Mass at the Church of the Virgin Mary and a folk costume tradition beneath the maypole. Fairground rides are available for children. If you are planning your trip around the pilgrimage, check the specific event dates in advance.

Tavíkovice is served by bus routes 811 and 158, which are part of the Integrated Transport System of the South Moravian Region (IDS JMK). Before setting off, check the timetable for the route you plan to use.
