Těšany: Forge, Church and Marian Chapel
Accommodation in Těšany
Těšany offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: the Baroque Kovárna forge, the Church of St. Barnabas, the Chapel of the Virgin Mary and the Zámeček. The buildings differ in their history, architectural style and purpose. When planning your visit, it is therefore helpful to consider not only their names but also their respective visitor conditions and areas of focus.
Kovárna and Zámeček
Kovárna v Těšanech is a Baroque forge dating from 1700. This exceptionally well-preserved craft workshop building is connected to farm and residential buildings. Its architectural significance therefore lies in its construction date and Baroque style, as well as in the workshop’s connection with other building functions.
Visits at other times are possible by prior arrangement for groups of at least ten people. As of August 24, 2026, these visitor arrangements may change, so arrange your visit in advance. The minimum group size is important if the forge is to be a fixed part of your stay.
The Zámeček is an early Baroque, two-storey building. Its history goes back to a residence built by Dominicans in Těšany in the second half of the 17th century, from which the Zámeček later developed. As of August 24, 2026, the building is privately owned and not open to visitors; however, a large part of it borders a freely accessible footpath. This access information may change, so check it before your visit.
Church and Chapel
The Church of St. Barnabas was solemnly consecrated on June 12, 1907. It is a fine, stylistically pure example of late Historicism and is one of the municipality’s landmarks. It currently has three bells, dedicated to St. Barnabas, the Holy Family and St. John the Baptist. The bell dedications therefore extend beyond the church’s patron saint.
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary stands on a rise between Těšany and Borkovany. It was consecrated on June 13, 1948, and built in gratitude for the safe return of political prisoners from Těšany who had been held in concentration camps. The chapel’s location and this specific commemorative purpose are both part of the building’s history. This is a different historical focus from that of the late Historicist Church of St. Barnabas.
Pilgrimages to the chapel are held regularly in May. If you are planning your trip around these pilgrimages, check the specific dates before you travel.
Cycling Route and Stay
Cycling Route 5114 Těšany–Šaratice passes through the cadastral area of Těšany. This adds a dedicated cycling route to the area’s architectural and religious attractions.
