If you’re looking for local history and religious art during your stay, Roubanina offers several tangible points of interest. These include St. Andrew’s Church, with its architectural history and remains of rare frescoes; historical theatrical performances by Sokol; and traditional local trades. The hilly landscape and cycling routes in the surrounding area add a distinct scenic and active dimension to this cultural focus. Before planning your trip, you can consider which themes you’d like to shape your stay.

Landscape and cycling routes

Roubanina lies in a hilly landscape at an elevation of 469 m. The Zavadilka stream flows through the village, and marked cycling routes run through the surrounding area. These details offer different perspectives: the landscape and stream describe the village, while the cycling routes are relevant for activities nearby. If cycling is part of your travel plans, you can consider the marked routes as a focus alongside local history.

St. Andrew’s Church: architectural phases and frescoes

St. Andrew’s Church has several historical layers that can be clearly distinguished by period. Its floor plan is elongated, and the slightly recessed chancel has five sides. The church underwent extensive reconstruction in 1923–1924, when a nave and a depot were added. Remains of rare 14th-century frescoes were uncovered and restored in 2003–2004. The church thus brings together medieval art and a considerably later architectural change.

Services at the church are listed for Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the second and fourth liturgical weeks; services for the current week are also listed. If you’d like to attend a service, check the current parish notice beforehand.

Local history and theatre

Roubanina was first mentioned in writing in 1356. It was founded in the immediate vicinity of a crossroads on important trade routes. These two details answer different historical questions: the year marks the first written mention, while the location on the trade routes describes the context of the village’s founding.

The history of theatre can also be viewed through two periods. From 1922 to 1933, the Sokol theatre group in Roubanina performed a total of 28 plays. A further 14 productions were staged from 1945 to 1962; the group ceased its activities in 1962. These dates offer a concrete glimpse of the village’s former cultural life.

Historical trades and the Tvrz

Historically, Roubanina was home to tradespeople including bakers, carpenters, blacksmiths, coopers, wheelwrights, shoemakers, tailors for men, and seamstresses. These trades add a glimpse of traditional local craftsmanship to the history of the theatre and the church.

Another historical feature is the late-medieval Tvrz Roubanina. It was originally part of a farmstead; today, only a slight rise remains in the garden of house No. 4. The village’s history is reflected in different ways: in its architectural and artistic heritage, documented cultural activities, and surviving traces in the landscape.
