If you are looking for a hotel in Prace, the character of the place can guide your choice of destination: the Battle of Slavkov, remembrance of its victims, church architectural history, and various route connections are central here. First consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay. The historical sites offer different ways to explore them, from the memorial and its exhibitions to church architecture and local places of remembrance.

Mohyla míru and the Battle of Slavkov

Mohyla míru is the landmark and natural center of the protected monument zone of the Slavkov battlefield. It was built in honor of the victims of the Battle of Slavkov on December 2, 1805. Alois Slovák conceived it as a “place of light” and as a memorial against war. In this combination, remembrance of the victims stands alongside an explicit message of peace. The memorial site can therefore be understood not only through the historical date, but also through its commemorative and cautionary significance.

Two exhibitions, different perspectives

The adjacent museum presents the permanent exhibition “Bitva tří císařů 1805,” which explores the Battle of Slavkov. Another permanent exhibition, “Fenomén Austerlitz,” is housed in the museum pavilion. It shows how the battle resonated in literature, music, and film, and provides information about the tradition of battle reenactments. The first exhibition focuses on the battle itself; the second complements it with its cultural legacy. If you would like to explore both topics, it is worth checking the exhibition visiting arrangements before your trip.

Church architecture and local memorials

The Baroque Church of Povýšení svatého Kříže was built between 1728 and 1730 using the church’s own funds, replacing a predecessor that had already fallen into disrepair. Its description includes both the construction period and its central-plan layout with an elongated six-lobed floor plan. The church can therefore be viewed not only in terms of its Baroque classification, but also through the specific form of its layout.

Other memorials commemorate different events. The memorial to the fallen commemorates 27 residents of Prace who died in the First World War between 1914 and 1918. A memorial erected in 1951 commemorates seven children aged nine to twelve who died after an antipersonnel mine exploded. The two memorials represent separate chapters of local remembrance: residents who died in the world war, and children whose deaths were caused by the mine explosion.

Cycling route, educational trail, and getting there

The municipality’s 2023 tourism strategy lists Prace as the starting point for cycling route 5097; the route runs via Slavkov u Brna and Bučovice to U Kříže. The educational trail about the Battle of Slavkov includes the PS11 Sokolnice–Prace–Újezd u Brna section. These details provide different points of reference: the cycling route is described by a sequence of places, while the educational trail section is identified by its name.

Bus line 48 runs from Brno Main Station to the Prace–Mohyla míru stop. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable before setting off. This lets you consider the historical highlights and the option that best suits your journey separately when planning your trip. If you are looking for a hotel in Prace, choose the destination to match the topics you would like to explore there, then check availability for your travel dates.
