Petrov offers a range of options for a stay: winegrowing and Plže, the Baťa Canal with its tourist water traffic, and architectural and local history. Wine tastings and a signposted walk add to these highlights. When planning your trip, it helps to consider these themes separately: Would you mainly like to explore winegrowing architecture, learn about local history, include water traffic, or go for a walk?

Winegrowing Architecture and Wine Tradition in Plže

The distinctive blue-and-white facades of the Plže wine cellars are considered a symbol of Slovak winegrowing and traditional rural architecture. Plže itself is regarded as a unique and particularly valuable ensemble of Moravian vernacular winegrowing architecture. On September 15, 1983, it was designated a village conservation area. This brings together several perspectives: the striking color scheme, its place within an architectural tradition, and its formal protected status. If you are interested in regional architectural styles, Plže offers a distinct focus.

Plže is also a vibrant center of Petrov’s winegrowing tradition and a place for wine tastings. The cellar facades shape its architectural character, while the tastings represent the site’s present-day use in connection with wine. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between the historical and contemporary aspects of the winegrowing tradition. If a tasting is of interest to you, you can plan it as a separate focus of your stay.

Baťa Canal and Petrov Harbor

The Baťa Canal runs through Petrov and is a major tourist attraction there. Tourist boat services operate on the canal between Otrokovice and Petrov, and possibly onward to Skalica in Slovakia. Schedules are seasonal and may change. Check the times for your travel dates before you go.

As of August 2026, Petrov Harbor had capacity for 47 boats; this may change. In recent years, boat rentals with refreshments have been set up along the Baťa Canal in Petrov. Check whether the service is available before making specific plans. Water traffic, the harbor and boat rentals are separate options: depending on whether you are considering a boat trip, the harbor or a rental, different up-to-date information will be important for your plans.

Church of St. Wenceslas and the Zvonice v Rybářích Bell Tower

The Zvonice v Rybářích bell tower was originally intended to warn of fires; it may also have announced the time. The Church of St. Wenceslas tells a different architectural story: Pope John Paul II blessed its cornerstone in Olomouc in May 1995. It was laid on September 28, 1997. This laid the foundation for the September festival in honor of St. Wenceslas, which is considered a modern tradition in Petrov.

The two buildings offer different historical perspectives. In the case of the bell tower, the focus is on its original purpose and possible additional function. At St. Wenceslas, the blessing and the later laying of the cornerstone are two separate milestones; the September festival originated in connection with the cornerstone being laid. This allows you to consider both a traditional function and a more recent local tradition as you explore Petrov.

A Walk Starting in Strážnice

The signposted “Od vlaku k vlaku – Ze Strážnice do Petrova” (From Train to Train – From Strážnice to Petrov) is an easy walk of just under seven kilometers. Its title describes the route from Strážnice to Petrov, offering a different way to plan your trip from traveling on the tourist water service. If you would like to include a walk, check the trail conditions before setting out.
