Accommodation in Odrovice
Odrovice combines a distinctive sacred heritage with a designated cycling route. The town’s architectural landmark is the Church of Panny Marie Pomocnice křesťanů; the Brněnská vinařská stezka also passes through Odrovice. These themes give your trip planning a concrete starting point: you can decide how to balance cultural history and cycling according to what matters for your stay.
Sacred Architecture and Cultural Monuments
The Church of Panny Marie Pomocnice křesťanů was built in 1900 in the Neo-Romanesque style and is a monument of local significance. As an architectural landmark, it shapes Odrovice’s built character. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk also stands by the church: a valuable Baroque sculpture from 1772 by the Moravian sculptor Ondřej Schweigl. Its pedestal is distinctively designed and bordered by a stone balustrade.
A wayside chapel from the second half of the 18th century stands on the southern edge of Odrovice. It is Late Baroque, with a triangular floor plan and three narrow niches. Its three-sided pyramidal roof is covered with beaver-tail tiles; the chapel is topped by an equal-armed cross with wrought-iron floral decoration. The floor plan, niches, and roof shape give the building a distinctive form that is easy to describe.
The Boží muka wayside chapel is a Late Gothic monument dating from 1521. Its figurative decoration includes depictions of Saint Andrew, the Mount of Olives, and the Crucifixion. A relief panel has been preserved on the chapel; Saint Andrew is the only surviving sculpture. The bracket beneath the sculpture is architectural rather than figurative in design. The chapel is considered an exceptionally valuable cultural monument: its significance lies both in its artistic execution and in the historical memory of the landscape.
Cycling Route and Directions
Cycling route No. 5171, the Brněnská vinařská stezka, passes through Odrovice. The marked cycle path through the town is designated as the Uherčice–Těšany section. Road II/395 also runs through Odrovice. This provides a named cycling route and a designated road route for orientation, without implying any specific travel time.
If you are looking for a marked hiking trail, one limitation is important: no marked hiking trail passes through Odrovice or its cadastral area. Check your specific route locally before travelling.
Landscape and Fishing
Parts of Odrovice’s cadastral area lie within the Niva Jihlavy Nature Park. The nature park includes an approximately 8 km-long, flat valley floodplain of the Jihlava River, shaped by the river’s natural meanders. Its purpose combines protection of the landscape character with compatible tourism and recreation. This regional landscape setting adds another perspective to the town’s history.
Fishing is permitted in the Odrovice section of the Potůček fishing area from publicly accessible locations. As local regulations may change, check them before fishing.
