Lipovec combines protected nature with sacred architectural history and traces of lime burning. The village lies on the edge of the Moravian Karst, at the transition between the karst region and the Drahanská vrchovina highlands. This gives you a clear choice of themes when planning your trip: explore the landscape, visit historic buildings or include outdoor activities.

Nature and geology at Černá skála

The specially protected area of Černá skála includes a pond at the bottom of an old quarry with Culm shales. It lies within the built-up area of Lipovec. Černá skála also protects a particularly valuable habitat for amphibians. Several specially protected animal species have been recorded there, and their reproduction has also been documented.

The rocks give the area another dimension: at Černá skála, siltstones and fine-grained greywackes of the Rozstáň Formation are exposed in an abandoned quarry. Here, special habitats meet the visible history of the rocks. If you are interested in nature, the focus is not only on plants and animals, but also on the bedrock that shapes the landscape.

Church and historic traces

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was built between 1828 and 1842 and consecrated on 8 September 1843. It was originally built without a tower; a small tower was added to the roof only in 1921. Its construction history can be read in two clearly distinct phases: the original church building and the later addition.

You can also find historic landmarks in front of the church. The cross there was erected by farmers and carters from Lipovec in 1852; they transported charcoal to Adamov. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk was newly made in 1816 and moved to its present location in front of the church in 1975. The first written mention of Lipovec dates from 1349.

An archaeological site is associated with an unknown, defunct medieval settlement. Finds date its existence from the second half of the 13th century to the beginning of the 16th century. This dating may be refined through further research.

Lime burning as part of local history

The Velká dohoda lime kiln was established in 1928 and operated until 1979. The remains of the Vrchničákova lime kiln have also survived; Vodákova is one of two preserved lime kilns in Lipovec. Together, these sites offer different insights into local industrial history: one facility with known years of operation, and lime kilns whose remains can still be seen today.

Hiking, cycling and activities

A green-marked hiking trail starts in the recreational area of Jedovnice and passes through Senetářov and the Zálomí trail junction by the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. It then continues to the Velká Dohoda area and ends in Suchý žleb at Kalvodův kříž. The route description was last updated in 2017; check the trail before planning your hike.

Lipovec is also a cycling-route junction, from which practically all the surrounding municipalities can be reached. Since the details of the network should be checked before setting out, it is advisable to consult the latest route information. This makes it possible to plan cycling and hiking separately, based on their respective routes and the information available.

The Velká Dohoda area has 150-metre-long practice via ferratas, or protected routes. You can climb on a 15-metre-high limestone wall; the necessary equipment and an instructor are available. The rope park spans ten poles and includes ten high and seven low obstacles. It is suitable for children and adults.

Events and local occasions

Various events are held at the Sokolovna in Lipovec, including Easter and Christmas exhibitions and performances by local artists. Tastings of slivovitz and slivovitz liqueur are also a tradition: the 20th edition was listed for 15 February 2025, with another tasting scheduled for 7 February 2026. These dated events offer a glimpse of local event life without anticipating a future date.
