Discover Doubravník: Church, Trails and Festival Traditions
Accommodation in Doubravník
When looking for a hotel in Doubravník, you can weigh different priorities when choosing your destination: church architecture and festival traditions, marked trails or protected landscapes. Local sights and routes offer specific points of reference, so you can distinguish between building history, event dates and trail routes.
Church and Monument History
The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Doubravník is a Late Gothic, three-aisled hall church. It was built between 1535 and 1557. Its furnishings include a valuable Renaissance pulpit and a rare Baroque organ by Jan Výmola, dating from 1760. The construction period and furnishings therefore come from different art-historical periods. To visit the church, you must book in advance by calling 604 311 817.
The historic center of Doubravník is also designated an urban heritage zone. The Chapel of St Mary Magdalene was built on Bozinka in 1692. The church, historic center and chapel offer different points of interest if you are interested in architectural history and sacred architecture.
A brochure with a map of the nature trails is available at the tourist information center next to the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, in House No. 32. It can help you find your way along the nature trails described here.
Landscape and Routes
The Doubravník area includes the Sokolí skála Nature Reserve, near the settlement of Prudká. Doubravnicko is also part of Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. These are two different geographical designations: a named nature reserve near Prudká and the region’s inclusion in a nature park.
Green-marked Nature Trail III leads from Pernštejn Castle via Sejřek to Doubravník. Check current trail conditions before setting out. Another route description refers to a 72-kilometer section of the international Cyril and Methodius Trail, from Ronov near Přibyslav to Doubravník. The 72 kilometers refer to this section; they are not the length of Nature Trail III.
Prudká has a covered wooden footbridge intended for pedestrians, which is part of the Prague–Vienna international cycle route in the EuroVelo network. Master carpenter Jan Nejez of Železné built it in 1899 for workers at the nearby C. M. Kopřivy paper mill. Since 1994, the bridge has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. If you plan to cross it, check the current crossing conditions in advance.
A viewpoint lies above the railway stop and can be reached by a short climb. When planning, you can therefore distinguish between a route with marked trails and the short climb to the viewpoint.
Festival Traditions and Cultural Events
Doubravnické hody is a long-standing traditional festival. It is held regularly on the Sunday of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross; the date varies from year to year. The festival includes a procession in traditional costume, a maypole ceremony, the ortel ritual and dancing beneath the maypole. Program details may vary. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the date for the year in question.
In Křížovice, a district of Doubravník, Galerie z ruky hosts major cultural events several times a year. Dates and programs vary here as well. These events and the hody, whose date changes each year, offer different cultural occasions; if you are planning a trip for a specific event, checking the relevant date is essential.
