Crhov combines historic buildings with a marked cycling route. Local points of interest include the former watermill near the Crhovský potok, the chapel, a memorial cross and the fortification site. Its location near the eastern edge of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park is another aspect of its setting. You can get to know Crhov through its architecture, its various historical connections and a specific cycling route.

Former watermill on the Crhovský potok

The former watermill is on the southwestern edge of the village, near the Crhovský potok. It is a two-storey wooden building. A remnant of the mill race and a waterwheel have been preserved on its southwestern side. Alongside its construction, these are surviving elements of the historic milling system. The building and the preserved parts of the mill race give the mill its distinctive architectural character.

The mill is a different type of building from the chapel: the description of the mill emphasizes its multiple storeys and wooden construction, while the chapel is defined by its square floor plan. These contrasting features offer a concrete way to compare Crhov’s buildings.

Chapel and medieval stone

Crhov’s chapel was built in 1801 and dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius in 2002. Its square floor plan measures 2.8 × 2.8 metres. More than two centuries separate its construction from its dedication; the two dates refer to different events in the chapel’s history.

In the same year as the dedication, a medieval stone bearing a carved double cross was moved from the road to Olešnice to the chapel’s foundations. The stone is a distinct, older object, and its relocation connects it to the chapel site. Although both the dedication and the relocation took place in 2002, they were separate events: the dedication concerns the chapel, while the relocation concerns the stone.

Cross and fortification site

The cross, erected in 1848, commemorates the abolition of forced labour and is now a cultural monument. The year of its construction and the reason it was erected are both stated here. The fortification site is in the southwestern part of the village; Crhov’s fortification is mentioned in 1487. These are separate historical references: the commemoration of the abolition of forced labour and a date associated with the fortification.

Cycling on Route No. 5089

Marked cycling route No. 5089 runs from Olešnice through Crhov to the ruins of Louka and is 7 km long. Its sequence of places is clear: Olešnice is the starting point, Crhov lies along the route, and the ruins of Louka are the destination. The stated distance is a practical guide for planning your day. Check current route conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Crhov in its landscape setting

Crhov lies near the eastern edge of the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park. This landscape setting adds to the local architectural and historical points of interest. When planning your trip, you can easily distinguish between the different highlights: the watermill, chapel, cross and fortification site reflect Crhov’s cultural and historical connections, while the cycling route follows its own course beyond the village.
