Landscape and regional setting

Šebetov lies at the southwestern foot of the wooded Rychvald hill, which reaches 607 m above sea level. Šebetov Castle Park extends deep into the Obora forest massif and eventually merges into the forest. Thus, a wooded ridge and a park that merges into a forest massif shape the local landscape. At the same time, Šebetov lies in the Malá Haná area, regarded as the most fertile part of the Blansko District. Rychvald and Obora provide the local setting, while Malá Haná places the village in its wider regional context.

The castle, chapel and local monuments

Šebetov Castle was originally a residence of Hradisko Monastery. The castle is not open to tourists, as it houses a social care facility for women with intellectual disabilities. Nevertheless, check visitor access again before your trip if you plan to include the castle in your itinerary.

The Chapel of St. Anne stands on a slight rise above Šebetov, on the site of a former pleasure palace. It was built in 1711 at the instigation of Hradisko Abbot Bernard Vanka. In 1842, the former estate owner, Count Mořic Strachwic, had the chapel remodelled in the Gothic style. The two dates mark different phases of construction: its building in 1711 and its later remodelling in 1842.

A sculptural group of St. John of Nepomuk stands in Šebetov village square. The statue of Our Lady of Sorrows dates from the mid-19th century and is now located on plot no. 90. Together with the chapel, these monuments represent different forms of religious remembrance: a religious building, a sculptural group in the village square and a statue of the Virgin Mary.
