Radkov is a destination for travelers who want to explore historic traces and the landscape together. Key features include the listed House No. 17, a memorial commemorating those who fell in the First World War, archaeological traces and trails through the area. The village lies in the varied, hilly landscape in the northernmost part of South Bohemia. The area is predominantly agricultural. For planning your trip, local history, natural surroundings and hiking offer three distinct areas of focus.

History and Cultural Monuments

Radkov’s origins are associated with the 13th century; written records of the village date only from the beginning of the 15th century. Jícha z Radkowa is considered the first known man from the settlement. He embraced Hussite teachings and went to Tábor with several other residents.

Radkov u Tábora is considered an archaeological area, where finds have been documented or are reasonably suspected. In the village green in the center of Radkov, next to the chapel, stands a memorial commemorating those who fell in the First World War.

Radkov’s listed immovable cultural monument is House No. 17. The two-storey building is predominantly timber-framed and has an elongated rectangular floor plan. The construction describes the predominant material; the floor plan describes the layout, while the number of storeys indicates its vertical structure.

Landscape along the Leštinský potok and Radkovský potok

The landscape can be described in more detail through two waterways. At the northwestern edge of the Radkov area, the Leštinský potok flows through a steep-sided, wooded valley, forming a valuable natural corridor and local biocorridor. To the east, a ravine carved by the Radkovský potok forms the boundary of the area; it has a similar function and significance within the ÚSES system. The Radkovský potok is part of the water network of Líderovice. The two reference points differ in form: to the northwest is the wooded valley, while to the east is the ravine of the Radkovský potok.

Hiking and Cycling

Several hiking trails run through the Radkov area. Hiking is therefore a way to explore the landscape in its own right, alongside the cultural and historical landmarks. Check the trail routes when planning your trip, then choose the focus of your stay.

There are also different points of reference for cyclists, depending on the time period. The route of the international Greenways Prague–Vienna cycle route described for 2012 ran along the road from Radkov to Kostelec. The “Krajinou srdce” route leads to the crossroads before Radkov, where it turns west onto road III/1233 toward Radkov. Road conditions and route markings may change; check the current route before setting out.

Regional Context

Since 2004, Radkov has been a member of the Společenství obcí Čertovo Břemeno municipal association and is one of five municipalities in the northern part of South Bohemia that belong to the association. This affiliation adds a regional context to the local historical and landscape features.
